WHAT IS DIANI RULES? Diani Rules is an annual sports event started 30 years ago to bring people to Diani over the Madaraka weekend for some beach fun and to raise money for the Charity. Diani Rules got its name as all the sports played have their rules butchered, for example we play football with a rugby ball… Our changes create entertainment for both the participants and spectators as well as leveling the playing field allowing people of all fitness levels to participate. Most of the sports are played on the beachor in the sea. For the last Twenty seven years, all funds raised by the event have been donated to the Kwale Eye Centre. In previous years we have usually managed to raise Kshs1,500,000 per year through the support of great sponsors such as Safaricom, Civicon and Base Titanium.

LOCAL BUSINESS SUPPORT Thanks to the generosity of the local accommodation providers we negotiate special rates for accommodation packages for competitors and spectators. In the twenty-nine years Diani Rules has been hosted by: Nomads, Alliance Hotels, Diani Sea Lodge, Forty Thieves Beach Bar, Pinewood Beach Resort, this year we will be at Safari Beach Hotel.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION We enlist the assistance of local South Coast residents to volunteer as officials, referees, and administrators. without whom we would be unable to run the event and are always looking for eager volunteers.

Battle to save colobus monkeys Kilifi Firm Develops Ventilator in Diani Beach.

As Diani becomes more populated and more attractive to tourists, the amount of development and traffic increases. But there are also other threats to this

A Kilifi firm has developed a ventilator that operates without electricity and helps infants who run out of oxygen. The firm behind is Vayu Bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (bCPAP) system, manufactured by Revital Healthcare (EPZ) Ltd in Kilifi County. It provides blended oxygen to the infants without the use of electricity. It is considerably cheaper, portable, has components that are re-usable after sterilization, and can be used at any hospital in any part of the country, compared to the normal CPAP systems in the market.

Colobus Conservation, an NGO, is on a mission to save the monkeys, who are facing the threats of deforestation and poaching and urged people not to see the primates as enemies, and instead plant more trees to make safe homes for the monkeys.
