eDITOR’S nOTE Summer is tourist season and with tourist season comes increased road traffic. I know that I continue to harp on road safety, but I don’t want anyone to become a statistic. I would like to remind all professional operators that some of the drivers you’re sharing the road with are pulling or driving their RV’s for the first time this season. They must refresh their skills and may be unsure of the feel and handling of their units. They can be unpredictable. Be careful and give them a wide birth. On the weekend of June 15-16, the APNA Truck Show took over the TRADEX building in Abbotsford B.C. The show was visited by 15,000 plus people. The visitors were greeted by an array of trucks, trailers and exhibitors all proudly showing off their wares. This year the major fund raiser was a 53 ft Hyundai dry van donated by Hyundai Translead and Kingpin Trailers or $20,000 cash. The proud winner of this Grand Prize was Tariq Malik. Should you be in the Lethbridge area July 20th I would like to invite you to join us at the Southern Alberta Truck Expo & Job Fair at the Lethbridge Exhibition Park. This is another example of transportation giving back to the community. Admission is by non-perishable food item for the Lethbridge Food Bank.

The 2019 APNA Truck Show was a huge success and it proved once again to be the largest and most attended trucking event in Western Canada. As in the past, the show booths were spectacular, offering visitors a lot to see and learn. And this year, the APNA Truck Show was a huge event with respect to booth space; so thank you once again for your confidence. Last year, we were fortunate to have Hyundai Translead and Kingpin Trailers donate a 53’ trailer that was won by Hardev Bajwa, who used his own truck to pull the trailer home after the show.

This year, once again, Hyundai Translead and Kingpin Trailers came through with another 53’ trailer, and this year, the winner was Tariq Malik. Congratulations to Tariq! This year, our charity of choice was the Kids Play Foundation, who’s vision is to keep our streets and communities safe by organizing sports tournaments, conferences, and other projects for our youth so they stay away from the lifestyle of gangs, violence, and drugs. As per estimates, $50,000 was raised for the Kids Play Foundation and we’d like to thank all of you for your support. This year, the APNA Truck Show Advisory Committee was instrumental in making key decisions that made the show even better. A huge thank you to the Advisory Committee for taking the time to invest in the show’s progress, growth, and popularity.
