BYZANTINE COINAGE The Goldman Collection of Anastasius I through Justinian I CNG is proud to offer the Goldman Collection of coins of the early Byzantine Empire. This specialized collection focuses on the first three Byzantine emperors – Anastasius I, Justin I, and Justinian I – and includes multiple officinae for most types. Each coin has been carefully selected by the collector and acquired in exceptional condition whenever possible. To name just a few of the highlights, the Goldman Collection features eight joint-reign solidi of Justin I and Justinian (lots 994-1001), an issue that was only struck for a four month period. Collectors of provincial mint issues will have much to choose from, including several wonderful Thessalonican solidi of Justinian (lots 1038-1040), an exceptionally rare and only recently discovered Alexandrian solidus (lot 1043), and a number of rare and important Italic issues (1049, 1051-1053, to give just a few examples). While the collection focuses primarily on the gold coinage, collectors of silver issues will also find a small number of coins that suit their interest.
