429. IONIA, or Uncertain Western Asia Minor. Circa 650-600 BC. EL Milesian Stater (13.92 gm). Geometric design consisting of an irregular square bisected b y crossing lines / Three incuse punches; 1) square with bisecting lions, pellet in each quadrant, 2) alternating s a w tooth pattern, 3) square bisected into 8 triangular compartments. VF. Unpublished and Unique! ($15,000) Recently a small hoard of the lower denominations of this rare series has appeared on the market (see the following lot for the corresponding Third Stater). To the best of our knowledge, this is the only stater to have been found in the hoard.
