Voters will elect a new city Around Town commissioner on June 9th Three to get ready, BY GARY ALAN RUSE

O

n June 9th voters participating in a special election will choose which of three candi-

dates will fill the remaining term of South Miami City Commissioner Jay Beckman, who died in a tragic shooting on April 12, Easter Sunday. The three candidates are (in alphabetical order) Rene Guim, Alec J.

Rosen and Lew Sellars. In response to a questionnaire by John Edward Smith, publisher of South Miami TOWN CENTER Magazine and moderator of the Candidates Forum, they have provided the following profiles:

Next Tuesday, a new commissioner will be elected in the City of Pleasant Living. At the present time, there are three guys vying for the empty spot left vacant by the death of Commissioner Jay Beckman. The three at risk of getting elected are, by alphabetical order of their first names, let’s try this out. Hey! Commissioner commander “Sir” Lew, or how about Commish “Hat” aka Alec or perhaps it’s the people’s will to elect Rene so that they can call him Commissioner Rene. In any case, one of the three will be there to serve the citizens of the City of Pleasant Living till February, 2010, when three seats will open up. One being the Mayor’s seat, with present Mayor, Horace Feliu, being the hands-on favorite to win again, one is the new “temp” and then there is... well... the favorite of the city manager, Commissioner Valerie Newman. Speaking of Valerie, since February the city filed an ethics complaint which included allegations, along with some witnesses, too, that she was walking around City Hall barking out orders to employees like she was the boss. And now there are some additional actions that she took that got the attention of the city
