NEW BRIDGE RUN, WALK PLANNED FOR KEY LARGO The organizers of the annual SevenMile Bridge Run have planed for a second run, called the Jewfish Creek

Bridge Run, a half marathon and 5K run/walk set for Saturday, Nov. 14. The half marathon will begin at 6:35 a.m. and the 5K run/walk will start at 6:45 a.m. The event is to take place in conjunction with a Health and Fitness Expo the day before. The foot races across the recently completed $93 million, one-and-onequarter-mile-long Jewfish Creek Bridge are to occupy the northbound lanes of the bridge and the southern portion of the “18-Mile Stretch,” a section of the Overseas Highway (US1) that connects mainland South Florida with Key Largo. More details about this event are available at <www.jewfishcreekbridgerun.com>. 3RD ANNUAL POSITIVE LIVING AWARDS NOMINATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED The Alliance for Aging has announced that nominations for the third annual Positive Living Awards are being accepted through July 31 and will be judged by a panel of three distinguished community leaders. With nearly 500,000 people aged 60

or older, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties are national examples of America’s future. Awards are presented in 13 distinct areas — Animal Wildlife, Corporate Services, Education/Mentoring, Environmental Protection, Faith/ Interfaith, Health Care, InterGenerational, Legal/Judicial, Not-forProfit Services, Philanthropy, Positive Living, Public Service, Sports and Entertainment. Winners will be announced during a reception in early September. MIAMI-DADE TRANSIT’S ELECTRONIC RIDER ALERT SYSTEM GOES ONLINE Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) customers can now sign up to receive electronic alerts about service delays that could affect their transit trip on bus or rail. Passengers can register for email or text message alerts on Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover service

TD BANK GIVES AMERICAN DREAM SCHOLARSHIP TO RECENT HS GRAD TD Bank recently announced that, among others, Kievan Zolfaghari, a Miami Coral Reef High School graduate, is a recipient of its annual American Dream scholarship program, which awards $1,000 to local graduating seniors who achieve both academic excellence and serve the community. Zolfaghari plans to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville and major in economics. Throughout high school, he was a finalist for the Miami Dade County Public Schools’ Student Volunteer of the Year award, placed first in the United Teachers of Dade Black History Essay Contest and was a Coral Reef Senior High School New Media Silver Knight nominee.
