Sawa is a breath of fresh air in a world of expensive chain restaurants. Ramzi Zahr, who opened the restaurant two years ago with his family, found the perfect location in beautiful Merrick Park in Coral Gables. Sawa, which means together, is a wonderful fusion of Mideastern food with the feel of South Beach. The food is presented by Chef de partie Aldo Castillo and executive chef Steven Acosta with the support of an attentive staff. Sawa offers a wide choice of speciality drinks but that is just the beginning. Would you believe they even have a menu for your four-legged family members. The doggy menu includes dark meat chicken kebab, chopped bacon
bits, mini bone biscuits, and Purina main courses. Zahr surprised me with his knowledge of American football and always is willing and readily to watch and cheer our local team to victory. Sawa is a great place to watch the big game. Tasteful belly dancers two nights a week and a hookah lounge round out this trip to the Middle East with exotic flavors like apple, grape, mint and mojito. If you’re really adventurous try a hookah where your drink liquor flavors the pipe. I was pleasantly surprised that the hookah experience was very mild and a lot of fun.
