The first woman president of any Israeli university, Rivka Carmi, M.D., BenGurion University of the Negev, delivered the Donna E. Shalala Presidential Lecture at the University of Miami. Attending were many civic and community leaders including Aventura Vice Mayor Billy Joel, who is also VP of the National Board of the University. “This university is so important due to its unique mission to develop the southern Negev desert region which is crucial for the safety, security, and future of Israel�, said Vice Mayor Joel.
