And speaking of local politics, all the paper work is back from Tallahassee concerning the most honorable vice mayor of our fair city, Brian Beasley. It’s really quite amazing how such a simple thing like paying people in cash for driving voters to the polls

could cause him so much grief. Oops!

Heck, Brian is a big boy. He can handle it…or can he…? Ooops, I spilled the beans.

Brian was reportedly walking around City Hall, mumbling. “Are they really investigating me?” Come on Brian, you weren’t born yesterday. Of course “they” are! Look at all the public documents that you’ve created with your marriages, divorce, mortgages, and loan applications, scrivener’s errors....Hmmm. So, Brian, batten down the hatches.

And speaking of pay backs, I hear that a lobbyist hatchet man or gal or whatever they are now called is after the city manager and has put together a bunch of documents and shipped them over to the Herald with all sorts of allegations about some supposed things that he may have been doing wrong.

I hear that one cop was demoted for spilling the beans and speaking out of school; when he allegedly mentioned to someone about the police dept. not having sufficient tools/supplies to take fingerprints. Not sure if that is accurate as Police Chief Robert Richardson said at a public meeting that the dept had what it needed for doing fingerprints. Stay tuned, cuz I hear that things are stirring once again, and I can’t but wonder what

role, if any, that the newest elected commissioner has to do with the hornets’ nest being whipped up. We do know that some folks are going to get stung before all the bugs are gone.

And speaking of bugs, I hear that the bugs have got some great recordings of goings-on over at City Hall, in the parking lot and in the front and back seats of cars. Hmmm. Anyone remember what took place over at the MetroRail parking lot 10 plus years ago?

And our neighbors to the South. I hear that Chris Knecht is having a blast considering running for the council in Palmetto Bay and that maybe, just maybe, Doug Dewitt, a real estate guru and a soccer coach just might help him figure out how to run down the field and score big time.

Most people are aware about how frugal the Eugene Flinn, the mayor of Palmetto Bay, really is and it’s a tribute to how he treats the taxpayers’ money. So it is with love that we are happy to report that the rumor floating around town is that HIS HONOR actually paid for lunch for a buddy at Flanagan’s in the Suniland Shopping Center. Golly, Gene, are you feeling OK, and for goodness sakes how come you never pay for my lunch?

Area fifth graders honored for academic achievement Gloria Burns GLORIA’S GAB An Elementary School Achievement Breakfast, presented by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation, was held on March 25, in the ballroom of Host Sponsor, the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables. Top fifth graders graduating from Gulliver Lower and South Campus Schools, Miami Christian School, Coral Gables Elementary and St. Thomas Episcopal School were honored for their academic achievement and community service. Coral Gables attorney, advises the event will feature Jewish War Veterans National Commander Ira Novoselsky who will talk on issues affecting veterans and the impact of the current budget and stimulus plan on the Veterans Administration Health Care program. Commander Novoselsky recently testified on these topics before the Veterans Affairs Committees of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Commander Novoselsky will visit and be hosted by senior commanders at the US Southern Command in Doral, several of whom will also attend the forum. The Commander will also attend a Sabbath service at Temple Emanuel and the Jewish War Veteran’s Department of Florida quarterly meeting.

For those not familiar with this group, The Korean War Veterans Association, founded in New York, in 1985, has a mission of defending our nation, supporting our veterans, memorializing and remembering our missing and fallen, supporting a free Korea and, because the Korean War is often referred as the “Forgotten War,” perpetuating our legacy. KWVA has 237 Chapters located in all 50 states.

Finally, here is a date for golfers to save.

the older population of our community.

The tournament will be held at The Biltmore golf course on Friday, May 8, with registration at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Jay Rokeach, Stadium Voice of the Miami Hurricanes will emcee the awards dinner and auction. Sports, resorts, dining and other valuable auction and raffle items will be available. As an added incentive, golfers can even win a car donated by Bill Seidle’s if they make a hole-in-one.

While guests looked on, some 85 bowlers took on “The Challenge” at Splitsville’s 13 lanes. Special guest to the Challenge was former Miami Heat guard Tim Hardaway, who visited each lane and excited the crowd.

For three hours the bowlers “endured” the rigor of the evening — ok, it wasn’t rigor, it was fun shared with family, friends and colleagues.

In addition to the Co-Chairs, other elected officials bowling in the event were: County Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez, Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick and Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn, who reportedly scored five strikes in a row! Fielding teams were South Miami Hospital, captained by CEO Javier Hernandez-Lichtl, incoming chair of the South Miami Drug-Free Coalition; a Baptist Health South Florida team with D. Wayne Brackin; First National Bank of South Miami team of senior executives, with Veronica Birch Flores as captain; Raquel Hickey and team from Coconut Grove Bank South Miami Branch, and a City of Coral Gables/Chamber team championed by CEO Mark Trowbridge, whose team all wore crowns.

Lane sponsors included the South Miami Rotary Foundation, which sponsored the team of South Miami Senior High School bowlers; the Police Benevolent Association, which sponsored the South Miami Police Department lane, and the IAFF Union #1403, which sponsored a team of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue from the South Miami Station.

The King Pins Challenge raised nearly $25,000 in this inaugural event. Guy Revelle, co-founder of Splitsville, was impressed with the amount raised for a first year event. “This tops what we’ve seen in other locations for an inaugural event, and I credit the fine work of the Co-Chairs in providing the leadership for the event.”

“It was not only the money raised for the work of our Coalition, but the number of people, who with their participation at the event and reading about it in the media, have come to know of our efforts in the community,” said Margaret Prinzavalli Sotham, Director of the Coalition. “I’m very proud of the South Miami community and its leadership for taking on the King Pins Challenge, and the challenge to make our community a safer place to raise our children. The money raised will support our social norms project in the high school, thought to be the first of its kind in Miami-Dade County and a model for others to follow.

It will also support our other efforts to reduce access to alcohol and other drugs, raise awareness in the community and change behaviors so that fewer kids are using these dangerous substances.”

More important to our legislators: Smokers or students?

R. Kenneth Bluh KENNETH’S COMMENTARY Our legislators in Tallahassee are on a hunt for more revenue sources and at the same time are examining every state expense with an eye toward saving money. Why? Our state budget is $3 billion in the hole.

A small number of legislators are joined by the Florida Professional Firefighters Association and any Floridian with common sense in urging the legislature to increase the state sales tax on cigarettes by a dollar a pack.

Estimated annual revenue to the state is $870 million. That alone would reduce our deficit by 29 percent.

What is the argument against increasing the tobacco tax? It’s not dependable, inasmuch as a tax increase may dissuade many smokers from smoking.

Crazy argument: all revenues are unstable. Real estate taxes go down as the

value of homes decrease. When shoppers stop or slow down buying that new TV set or a pair of shoes for the kids, the amount of sales taxes collected goes down.

The question is: Why are our governor and our legislators so against increasing the sales tax on tobacco but show little hesitancy about increasing the cost of education in the state?

Could it be that the average smoker is a voter and most students aren’t old enough to vote? Could it be that the tobacco industry has a big lobby in Tallahassee and education has only teachers, a few parents and students fighting for more educational dollars?

Adding to the argument in favor of increasing the sales tax by a buck, as pointed out by the firefighters, is the fact that millions of dollars would be saved in fighting fires, inasmuch as 20 percent of home fires are caused by smokers. If fewer people smoked, there would be fewer home fires, saving possibly millions in firefighting expenses.

Add to that fact, which we all know is true, is that smoking causes cancer.

VIEWPOINT Fewer smokers, less cancer means lower medical expenses. And, saving lives is even more important than saving dollars.

Students are being asked to come up with more dollars for tuition at a time when parents funding their children’s college education find it becoming more and more difficult. Now, on top of the parent’s financial problems, the state is considering cuts in Bright Futures scholarships and other student funding programs.

No need to worry, our legislature is hard at work examining other state expenses in the hope of eliminating, or at least reducing, the $3 billion shortfall. They are considering such gigantic items as saving $11,000 a year by taking pagers away from our state troopers.

That’s $11,000. Why that alone would

reduce our state budget by a whopping .0000036 percent.

If our governor and our legislators are so concerned about smokers rebelling against them at the next election, they could adopt this campaign slogan: “Smokers, we are trying to save your life!”

Why, I bet we even have some smokers in our legislature — maybe that’s the reason for their hesitancy. After all, lobbyists aren’t permitted to buy legislators smokes anymore.

The grand prize eater will receive free sushi for a year, a $600 value, as well as bragging rights as the first RA Sushi Spring Sushi Showdown champion. Spring Camp at Miami Seaquarium brings great adventures to children who will come face to face with a variety of marine species. This year’s Spring Camp, with the theme “Animal Explorers,” will take place Monday, Apr. 6, through Friday, Apr. 10.

Spring Camp 2009 is a great way for children to learn about marine science in one exciting week, while spending each day seeing marine mammal shows, interacting with animals, playing games and doing arts and crafts.

ASA, AMC join to host sensory friendly film In honor of National Autism Awareness Month, AMC Entertainment (AMC) and the Autism Society of America (ASA) have joined to bring a special showing of Hannah Montana: The Movie on Saturday, Apr. 18, 10 a.m., at AMC Sunset 24, 5701 Sunset Dr. in South Miami.

Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disability that affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own snacks and neither previews nor advertisements will be shown before the movie.

Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing; AMC’s “Silence is Golden” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.

THE CAPITAL, TALLAHASSEE, FEBRUARY 3, 2009 - A top official at the state Office of Insurance Regulation said Tuesday night that regulators believe the private insurance market could absorb potentially all of the 900,000-plus property insurance policies that would be shed if State Farm were allowed to pull out of Florida as it has proposed to do.

State Farm has proposed a twoyear pull out, and company officials told a House Insurance Committee Tuesday that they couldn't say precisely what might be able to change the company's mind, given its precarious financial situation.

The company was recently turned down by state regulators for a 47 percent rate increase and company officials told legislators that it can't bear any more losses in the property market in Florida, given the state's hurricane record, regulatory environment and a recent increase in the amount of discounts that customers can get for stormhardening their homes.

THE MIAMI HERALD, JANUARY 27, 2009 - Saying its finances are weakened, State Farm's Florida unit wants to get out of the business of property insurance in the state.

The company, Florida’s largest private insurer of homes and condos with 1.2 million policies, wants to keep only auto insurance, it said in a statement.

Other State Farm units would still sell life, health and other financial services, it said in a statement.

Under State Farm’s proposal, it would phase out of the property insurance business over two years, giving existing customers time to find new coverage.

If State Farm’s plan is approved by state insurance regulators, that means it will no longer write the full range of property policies, including homeowners, condo, renters, boaters, mobile home, business property, commercial liability and commercial marine.

It afforded him the opportunity to not only help patients with hearing loss, but also those suffering from dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance. Joseph had the opportunity to sharpen his skills as an audiologist at the University of Miami Ear Institute.

His sister Yvette, who also started working at Caribe Hearing Aids at a young age, “did not think I would spend most of my life in this industry.” But while studying Accounting at Florida International University (FIU) she also studied for and received a license to sell and dispense hearing aids. After graduating from FIU she decided to continue working at Caribe and applied her accounting knowledge to the administrative side of the business.

Naturally, when the Duran’s decided to open their own business, New Generation Hearing Centers, in January of this year, they divided the responsibilities. Yvette is in charge of operations, while Joseph attends to their patients.

Both married with children, they believe that owning their own business allows them to continue their careers while, at the same time affording them time to spend with their families. Together, the team has accumulated 30 years of experience in both Audiology and the Hearing Aid industry, making them well prepared when they opened the doors of their new office at 3431 SW 107th Avenue in Miami, Florida in January 2009.

Choosing a place to start was not a problem.

Joseph and Yvette both grew up in this area of Miami. They both went to Rockway Elementary, and while Yvette continued her education at St. Brendan High School, Joseph attended Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. Born of Cuban parents, Dr. Duran and his sister Yvette are fluent in Spanish and English.

“This is our home, we know the people and we understand their needs”, commented Joseph Duran, 32, Co-President and Director of Audiology of New Generation Hearing Centers.

Although Dr. Duran does not specialize in children under the age of ten, he has patients up to the age of 106.

Recently, he had to look for solutions for a

patient who suddenly (within seconds) lost his hearing in one ear because of a displaced shot while cleaning a firearm. Another patient lost hearing in one ear while scuba diving. “Luckily he came to see me right away, so I was able to have him begin treatment with an Otolaryngologist getting him on the road to recovery,” stated Dr. Duran.

Based on their years of involvement with the sale of hearing instruments, the Duran’s have been able to keep their finger on the pulse of any and all new technological advancements in their field.

They are able to empathize with their patients and understand how hearing loss, when untreated, can lead to other health related problems such as stress, fatigue, decreased self-confidence, and in extreme cases, depression.

The transition from analog to digital technology in the last 10 years has completely changed the menu for hearing aids. “Now our patients have more options,” affirmed Yvette Duran Someillan, 38, CoPresident and Director of Operations of New Generation Hearing Centers.

Since the appearance of digital hearing aids, open fittings, and Bluetooth compatibility (technology that allows for cordless communication between hearing aids and cell phone or other electronic devices), many people with hearing difficulties feel more comfortable wearing them.

Digital hearing aids, in comparison with analog systems, are extremely flexible in terms of programming. Since they come equipped with computer chips, environmental sounds can be adjusted automatically. Wearing a hearing aid is no longer cumbersome or a nuisance, hearing aids are now discreet and can be fit to suit any lifestyle.

“That has allowed me to offer made-to-order hearing aids to my patients,” explained Dr. Duran. For example, one of his patients is a teacher and reported difficulty hearing the students sitting in the last row of his class. Dr. Duran programmed his hearing aids to allow this patient to hear those students by simply pressing a button. When not in class, the patient only has to touch the same button again for the hearing aid to function properly in other situations.

New Generation Hearing Centers offers a wide range of hearing aid types and styles with prices starting at $500. Most of the hearing aid cost is generally paid for by the patient since most insurance plans will only cover a portion of the total price. More advanced models begin at $1,300. A majority of the hearing aids available have been designed by large manufacturers, one of them being well-known, Swiss-made Phonak Hearing Instruments.

It is because of the many years in the field of audiology that both Dr. Duran and his sister felt secure in their ability to achieve success with this business venture, even in this unstable economy.

How to Choose a Phar macy

BY MIKE DUNN When choosing a pharmacy for your family, there should be other considerations aside from a convenient location or even cost. After all, there is much at stake in selecting the right pharmacy and the right pharmacist. This is a person that you, your spouse and your children may be dealing with for many years.

Your pharmacist, first and foremost, should be someone you know and trust.

According to the apharmacist.org Web site, you should give as much consideration to choosing your pharmacist as you do to choosing a doctor. Pharmacists are health care professionals specializing in medicines and their appropriate use. Because of this, your pharmacist plays an important role in your personal health care and the health care of your family.

The importance of assessing personal service in selecting a pharmacist is considered critical by most patients. In that regard, here are some questions to ponder: How accessible is the pharmacist?

Is he or she easy to talk to and willing to hear your concerns?

During what hours is the pharmacist available to answer your questions?

It is important to choose one pharmacist with whom you can establish an ongoing relationship. Also, by choosing one pharmacy, a complete record of the medicines you take is in one place, making them easier to coordinate and manage. Your pharmacist can alert you to possible drug interactions - particularly if you take a number of different medications - help you track refills on important prescriptions, and provide any necessary detail on short notice.

It is wise to consider your entire family’s pharmacy needs. Often, a pharmacist can help you with special circumstances, such as when you are taking care of an elderly relative. If you have aging parents that live nearby, you might ask, for example, if it is possible to deliver prescriptions to their home and send the bill to you.

Not all pharmacists and/or pharmacies provide the same services. All pharmacies are required to meet minimum standards.

Most, however, offer services and conveniences beyond the minimum requirements.

When choosing a pharmacist and/or pharmacy, you should evaluate your needs and make a selection to meet those needs.

Here are some other suggested questions to consider: Does the pharmacist take time to answer

your questions in a manner that you understand?

Is the pharmacy open during hours that fit your schedule?

Does the pharmacy deliver? If so, are there restrictions or additional charges?

If there is an emergency, does the pharmacy provide after-hours service or a special emergency telephone number?

Are charge accounts available?

Does the pharmacy handle the drugs you expect to be taking?

There may be a higher cost for additional services or conveniences such as delivery, charge accounts, and emergency service.

Real value, however, comes not only from the price of your prescriptions, but from having your specific needs met at a fair price.

It is also very helpful to become thoroughly familiar with your insurance benefits as they concern your prescriptions. For example, some prescription benefits plans will only pay for the dispensing of a certain days supply of your medication. If your physician issues a prescription for a larger supply of medication, the pharmacy will have to decrease your quantity dispensed or your insurance company will not pay for the medication.

Obviously, since your physician is issuing the prescriptions, it is important to advise your

physician concerning any prescription restrictions under your prescription benefits plan.

Not every pharmacy will accept your prescription drug card. A pharmacy must sign a contract to provide services for each prescription benefit plan. The owner of the pharmacy must review each contract and decide which insurance plans the pharmacy will accept. If the pharmacy does not accept your prescription card, the pharmacy probably does not have a signed contract with your health insurance provider. In some cases, pharmacy owners may take steps to add your prescription benefit plan if asked to do so.

Once you weigh all the factors and choose a pharmacy, it is strongly recommended that you use this pharmacy for all of your prescriptions needs. This allows you to receive the greatest benefit from the “screening” for drug interactions, etc., by your pharmacist since this one pharmacy has all of your prescription drug records.

How to Choose a Dentist

BY MIKE DUNN A good first step in choosing a dentist is to ask neighbors, friends and coworkers about the family dentist they have chosen. This is especially helpful if you are moving to a new community and haven’t had time to become acclimated to your surroundings.

If there is one dentist who is mentioned frequently and you like what you are hearing, the next step is to schedule a visit to meet him or her and get acquainted. The purpose is to see if you feel comfortable with this person and his dental practices.

After all, the dentist you choose will be working on your teeth and the teeth of your spouse and children for possibly a long time. Ask the prospective dentist about his philosophy of health care. You might be surprised at the answer you receive. Ask about fees, payment plans, and insurance coverage. You know what your financial situation is, so it is proper for you to initiate the discussion.

How did the dentist and his or her staff respond to you? Was there a professional atmosphere in the office? Did the dentist and staff take the time to listen to your concerns and seem genuinely interested?

A dentist who seems too rushed or too busy to take the time to get acquainted may not have the time to address your personal needs and concerns down the road and is probably not the one you want.

Something else to consider is the size of the dentist office. This isn’t always the case, but sometimes a dentist with a large practice and a large staff has little time to devote to individual patients. He or she is too busy working and keeping up with the cost of the practice! Large dental practices are more likely than smaller ones to hurry patients through without taking the time for proper examinations or thought to what is actually best for the patient.

First and foremost, you want a dentist who has your best tooth care and treatment in mind.

You can also make evaluations about a prospective dentist after your initial examination. Did the dentist take the time to do a thorough exam so that no problems or potential problems are missed? A thorough dental examination includes not only inspection of the teeth and gums, but also of the tongue, lips, inside of the cheek, palate, and the skin of the face and neck, plus feeling the neck for abnormal lymph nodes and enlargement of the thyroid gland. A good

dentist is also on the alert for periodontal (gum) disease. Did the dentist check for signs and symptoms of periodontal disease such as bleeding from the gums and/or pockets of decay? After the exam, did the dentist establish goals for your long-term care?

In March of 1997, Consumers Research provided a number of questions for consumers to ask themselves after they have received treatment from a dentist. These help determine the level of the dentist’s skill.

Here are the questions: How does your bite feel? Is any of the dental work irritating your gum? Does the treated tooth look like a tooth? Does dental floss or your tongue catch on the tooth? Did the dentist take time to polish your fillings? Do you feel pain when drinking hot or cold liquids? Was any debris left in your mouth after treatment?

Does the dentist use a water spray to cool your teeth while drilling?

Other things to watch out for in evaluating a prospective dentist are an emphasis on mass production rather than quality care; an emphasis on cosmetic procedures and onevisit comprehensive treatments; and the routine use of intravenous sedation.

Your dentist should be someone in whose judgment you trust. You are entrusting to the dentist the long-term tooth care of your family. Asking the right questions ahead of time can help to assure you of making an informed decision that you won’t regret in the years to come.

How to Choose a Chiropractor

BY TRACY JOHNSON Today, Chiropractors are moving up in the world as a practitioner that can heal your body from so much more than the everyday aches and pains and the occasional back injury. The spinal cord in the body is being linked to pretty much your overall health and fitness.

For example, if you are having a problem with depression, a pinched nerve can cause it. Same for sinusitis, fatigue, migraines, and so many more symptoms that most doctors just prescribe drugs for. Chiropractic medicine is being looked at more and more for help with common ailments. This is starting to take trend due to the unnecessary drugs most doctors prescribe which may help the symptoms, but do not take care of the underlying problem. In research, it is found that your spinal cord is the traffic point for all your nerves. If one of them becomes pinched, or blocked, then you will begin to experience different types of ailments. So how does one go about finding the right Chiropractor for them? Well here are a few tips to help

you when shopping around for one.

First, when choosing a chiropractor, consider what you are looking for. Some chiropractors only treat most aches, pains, and serious injuries, while others are interested in constant care with rou-

tine adjustments and assessments. If you have a chiropractor that only sees you when you are in pain, and you are looking for more of a permanent solution, not just a relief from symptoms, then try looking towards a holistic chiropractor.

These chiropractors will give you a complete work up, from doing a spinal reading, to x-rays, to a full medical questionnaire and history. During these visits, the chiropractor will first meet with you to see where your trouble areas are and begin to address these areas. He/she will also begin to formulate a routine treatment plan to help readjust any spinal shifts and realign your neck as well to keep the nerves from pinching and ending in medical symptoms.

Now that you know what type of chiropractor you are looking for, begin asking around (ask friends, neighbors, co workers, and family members) if they recommend any one that fits in your requirements. However, remember, just because your mom may love her chiropractor, it doesn’t mean that he/she will be a good fit for you. After receiving your recommendations, call the office and ask some questions on their policies and areas pertaining to the type of care you would like to receive. First impressions are always the most important, so if you do not feel like they will best complete your needs, then keep shopping around.

Another thing to remember, is that most chiropractors accept insurance, so make sure yours will be compatible with them prior to setting your appointment.

Some chiropractors offer free consultations and x-rays when starting up as a new patient. Use this time to ask more questions of your chiropractor and describe to him/her what you hope to receive from their care. A lot of chiropractors will be upfront and let you know if they can provide the type of care you are looking for and will even refer you to another if they cannot. Make sure to check on licenses and school credits prior to allowing the chiropractor to begin any adjustments on you. A good rule of thumb is to make sure they have been in their own practice for at least two years prior to becoming their patient. You don’t want to go see an intern that just graduated from his/her schooling and is looking for fresh meat to begin practicing on.

A good chiropractor, as any other doctor will listen to you and work to meet your health goals and treatment needs.

Chiropractors are licensed by the state, and should have completed six to seven years of college and post-graduate schooling from an accredited university.

Chiropractic treatment can help with a wide variety of ailments, but a good doctor will make referrals when needed.

Choosing a chiropractor is ultimately a personal decision, and you should chose a doctor you feel personally comfortable with.

LET’S TALK CARS If you’re one of the many who liked the Nissan Altima Sedan, then you’ll love the sporty two-door Coupe version.

It’s smaller and lighter, and when you slide behind the wheel it delivers a much sportier ride.

The Altima Coupe was a new model for 2008, so the changes for 2009 are minimal, including revised 18-inch alloy wheels on V-6 equipped models, with larger 235/45R18 tires. Automatic door locks have been added to all models and the front grille has been given highgloss paint.

It’s available in four models — 2.5 S 6MT, 2.5 S CVT, 3.5 SE 6MT and 3.5 SE CVT — and comes with either the VQseries 3.5-liter V-6 or the 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine. Both are offered with either a six-speed manual transmis-

sion or Nissan’s advanced Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).

The Altima Coupe is sleek and sporty, with an aggressive stance, bold shoulders and a sensual design. It differs from the Sedan with a shorter wheelbase (105.3-inches), shorter overall length (182.5 inches) and lower height (55.3 inches). And, of course, it has two fewer doors. The two cars share only a common hood, with all other panels, grille, headlights and rear combination lights unique to the Altima Coupe. A pair of chrome exhaust tips and unique taillights give the Coupe a distinctive rear presence.

The Altima Coupe rides on Nissan’s new advanced “D” platform that was introduced on the 2007 Altima. Nissan engineers developed the new platform with the idea of making the Altima one of the best performing front-wheel drive vehicles on the market. They have tweaked it for the Coupe to virtually eliminate torque steer.
