This is a country with tourist potential. Few countries offer such diversity of enormous landscapes (beaches, mountains, plains, jungles), prosperous weather, and a privileged geographical location as Venezuela does. In regards of Venezuelan culture, it is the result of a mix of three races: Indigenous, African and Spanish, Which came into contact in Latin America after the arrival of Christopher Colombus. This mixture resulted in a rich culture in every region of the country. The Indigenous culture is reflected in venezuelan popular handcrafts. Their technics, processes and materials are used by craftmen all over the country. It is also reflected in traditional food such as casabe and arepa. While African culture is reflected in some religions near the coasts, where the drum beats are essential in popular festivals. Lately Spanish culture is reflected in the language, the catolic religion, gastronomy, architecture, music and popular traditions such as paraduras and San Benito festivals.

At the western end of Venezuela, in the State of Zulia, you can find the city of Maracaibo, this is the second city of Venezuela and together with the East Coast of the Lake, forms an important oil center that is located on the shores of the lake that takes its name and, it was discovered on August 24th of 1499, by the marine called Alonso de Ojeda, Colombus's companion on his second voyage. Among the things that draw the attention towards Maracaibo are the color of its churches and colonial houses, such as Santa Bárbara Church and Basilic Church home of our virgin patroness Chiquinquirá. The shores of Maracaibos Lake and the sea-banks overlooking Venezuela’s gulf, offer the traveler excellent beaches, but also historical spectacles of the colonial castles such as San Carlos Castle, Zapara Castile and the redoubt of Paijana. In Zulia, there are different indigenous communities (Guajiros and Wayuús to the north in the peninsula Guajira, Yukpas and Barí to the south of the state between Machiques and Sierra de Perija and the Paraujanos), that still conserves many of their traditions and autochthonous handicrafts. Tourists who visit the area, find it as an authentic cultural experience.
