The Milton Measure

Promposals Take Campus by Storm By Kate Higgins ‘15 A&E Writer It’s that time of the year again… promposal season, that is. Students go about their daily lives on campus, eyes always peeled in hopes of witnessing an epic prom proposal (a.k.a. promposal). In recent years, even beyond Milton, promposals have become more popular and competitive. Teenagers everywhere are vying to come out on top with the most elaborate and unforgettable promposal. Milton Academy has seen a wide range of impressive promposals which began almost a month and a half before May 31, the date of the Senior Prom. Who could forget Claire Russell (I), backed up by Epic, serenading Rush Hogan (III) at recess with her own rendition of John Legend’s “All of Me”? The performance was received very well by the student body and, more importantly, by Rush himself. The Student Center erupted into a chorus of “oohs” and “aahs” when the serenade ended and Rush accepted Claire’s invitation to prom. JJ Dunn (I) adopted a similarly musical approach.

He and several Forbes boys showed up at the doorstep of Robbins one Tuesday night after check-in. “Wonderwall” by Oasis was playing out of a set of speakers and the rest of the Forbes boys were holding candles and signs that spelled out “P-R-O-M?”. Tapley Eaton (I) leaned out of the window of her room and, after JJ asked if she would go to prom with him, called down, “I will!” Some seniors chose humor. Kaitlin Gately (I) asked Alex Vivado (II) to prom by giving him a personal cheese pizza with the words “prom… or is this too cheesy?” written inside the box. Charlie Blasberg (I), not one to be outdone, asked Shira Golub (I) by placing a fake ticket from Campus Safety on her windshield. He dressed up as a police officer and even had Campus Safety in on his plans. Equally surprising was Jack Urquhart’s (I) hiding himself in an enormous wrapped box and popping out as a “Jack-in-the-box” to ask Abby Lebovitz (I) to prom during her tennis practice. Kendall Hall (I), similarly, asked Mr. Reddicks to call Nick Tupanjanin (III) into his office for a meeting. Mr. Red-

dicks pretended he knew of some heinous deed that Nick had committed on one of the overnight trips during the basketball season. Mr. Reddicks would not stop until Nick confessed, although—at least to the Measure’s knowledge— Nick had nothing to confess to. Mr. Reddicks continued to interrogate Nick until he finally told Nick he had only one

more question-- and Kendall popped out from under Mr. Reddicks’ desk to ask Nick to prom. Of course, he accepted. These are just a few tales of the art of promposing. Practically every day during the month of May, when I checked Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, one of my friends had posted a photo of yet another promposal. Creative prom

proposals have become an overwhelming trend all over in recent years, redefining a generation that has been presumed unromantic and unwilling to put its hearts on the line. The Class of 2014 has set the bar pretty high with their public, unforgettable promposals. Will the Class of 2015 rise to the challenge next year?

Must See Summer Flicks By Simone Hunter-Hobson ‘16 A&E Writer

Summer is the best time of the year, often spent vacationing, sipping piña coladas by the pool-side, or watching all the newest and hottest movies with neighborhood friends. This summer offers a lot of intriguing movies, most of which are sequels. Four in particular, Think Like A Man Too, X Men: Days of Future Past, Transformers: Age of

Extinction, and Dawn of the Planet of Apes, are the most anticipated movies worldwide for this summer due to their prequels’ great success. However, will these four movies reach the standards set by their predecessors and match the great level of quality that their preceding movies produced? Let’s start with Think Like A Man Too - a romantic comedy that depicts the story of four women who face turbulent issues with their sig-

nificant others. The title, Think Like A Man, signifies these four females’ attempts to create successful relationships by thinking from the perspective of their partners, causing a plethora of problems. On June 20, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to witness the continuation of the four problematic relationships that gradually turn into a gender battle of the women vs. the men--this movie takes the saying “all is fair in love and war” to a new level.

X-Men: Days of Future Past, leads the lineup of upcoming summer blockbusters

X Men: Days of Future Past will feature the original cast - the Immortals. The storyline consists of the Immortals reuniting and fighting against the Sentinels in order to save the world from destruction. With the well-known actors, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender, this movie guarantees a promising success and nailbiting drama. While the movie premiered on May 23rd, its showings will definitely proceed into the summer season. Another movie being released this summer, Transformers: Age of Extinction is definitely one of the most highly anticipated movies of the summer due to Shia LaBeouf’s departure and Mark Wahlberg’s appearance as his replacement. The trailer hints at a plot involving the world disregarding the presence of the Autobots, who have been loyal and supportive to the human race. In other words, the Autobots and their villainous enemies, Decepticons, will no longer be useful to the humans and eventually will be exiled from Earth. Personally, however, I’m quite tired and bored with the redundant idea of the Autobots and Decepticons being useless and exiled from Earth. In all three

past movies, the humans have consistently threatened the transforming robots with exile. Therefore, I am hoping for a refreshing, original storyline for the new Transformers: Age of Extinction, coming out in theaters on June 26th. Last but certainly not least, Dawn of the Planet of Apes is probably the movie with the widest appeal, from children to senior citizens, because of its continuation of the original Planet of the Apes series of 1968. In particular, the new movie, Dawn of the Planet of Apes, which will be in theaters on July 11th, seems to feature the most unexpected but nonetheless interesting story plot of all the Summer Flicks. The merciless apes dominate the world, showing no mercy while fighting against the salvation-seeking civilization-preserving humans. #TeamApes seems to be the most appropriate premature advertisement, exciting the viewers for one of the best movies in the 2014 summer. Failure to have a fun and intriguing summer is impossible with the release of all four of these films. Summer reading may have to sit on the back burner for a while as we enjoy a new season of excellent movies.
