Finally-Victory In lhe End Despite certain disadvantages this year's Lady obstacles, and Miner soccer team worked hard all season, giving their best effort in every game. Every outing proved to be a challenge and everyone's dedication was necessary. If points were given out for effort, this year's Lady Miner soccer team would have been a winner evezy time. But this year's team, under the leadership of Coach Boucher, found difficulty in each outing by having only twelve players, which allowed for only one substitute, thus making play difficult for evezyone. Yet, in the end, this determined squad of girls persevered, gaining their first win over Maryville College 2-1. This well-deseiVed victozy in the last week of the season provided a reward for the team's efforts throughout the season.
In addition to the lone victozy, there were also other bright
spots throughout the season. Overtime ties ending in scores of 11 occured against both Rhodes and Westminster. Individual players' efforts also stood out. Usa BUIWell accounted for two-thirds of the team's goals this year with four, including both in the victory. Stephanie Swift and Cynthia Peters added the majority of the other goals. Outstanding defensive play was provided this year by Leslie Sawyer and Melissa Moore, who enabled the Miners to remain close in many of the losses. Kim Dale also contributed her talents throughout the year. Overall, this team deserves much praise for its dedication and effort in the face of adversity. Hopefully, with a good recruiting season, there will be some fresh faces to help out next year.
