William Hubbard, ChE, recently received his 17th patent. U.S. Patent No. 7,735,460 teaches how vegetable oils, with proper blending, can be used as fuel for ordinary autos. He reports that since retirement in 1988, he’s been busy working on various patents, including several that “involve a fuel that is safe and legal to store in your car in case you run out of gas. It is called ‘Spare Fuel’ and is on the market now.”
Donald J. Dowling Jr., ChE: “Still in Sun City, Ariz. — when not traveling to grandkids’ weddings.” Elmer D. Packheiser, ME: “My wife and I are enjoying our retirement years on a six-acre place in Cumberland Valley near Greencastle, Pa., with our 31-yearold horse and two cats.”
Robert T. Stelloh, GGph, MS MinE’61, and his wife, Audrey, celebrated their first anniversary.
1947 William P. McKinnell Jr., MetE, is living comfortably in retirement at Holly Creek, 5500 E. Peak View Ave., Apt. 2226, Centennial, CO 80121.
Lang among top executives at Arch Coal Paul Lang, MinE’83, was recently elected executive vice president of operations for Arch Coal. He was previously the corporation’s senior vice president. Lang is responsible for the safety, environmental and financial performance of the company’s mining operations, as well as exploration, geology, operations planning, engineering, mine development, corporate procurement and maintenance. Lang, who is also a graduate of the advanced management program at Harvard Business School, has been a member of the corporation’s senior officer team since 2006. He joined Arch Coal in 1984.
1950 Eugene A. Bartels, CE, and his wife, Marilyn, celebrated their 60th anniversary on Aug. 12 and he turned 86 on Aug. 27. Raymond W. Davis, ME, earned an MBA from Benedictine University in 1980 and has been retired since 1990 from Siemens. “I’m still in good health at 87. Rolla is my hometown. God bless America.”
1953 William E. “Bill” Patterson, PetE: “I finally got a Ph.D. by marrying a lovely retired college professor in May. June and I plan to visit the Rolla campus in 2012.” The couple funded a staff office in the Hasselmann Alumni House.
1957 Donald R. Bowers, ME, MS EMgt’71, is enjoying retirement in Washington, Mo. Edward B. Campen, CE: “We are still moving along. The old oil patch is getting some steam up again. If we could get the feds out of our face, we would not be in the fix we are now in.” Russell E. Wege, PetE: “My wife and I are enjoying good health. We enjoy our grandchildren and doing service projects for others.”
1961 Barbara (Lay) Patterson, Chem, MS Chem’65, PhD Chem’85: “Thank you for the photo CD and for a wonderful Golden Alumni Reunion celebration.”
1962 Henry Pat Duvall, Math: “I am still tutoring math at South Seattle Community College and volunteering as a judge of student projects at the local Aviation High School.”
1963 Shafique Naiyer, CE: “We are enjoying retirement by traveling. We spend November to April in our vacation home in Desert Hot Spring, Calif.” The couple traveled to Turkey for 17 days and spent three weeks in Arizona visiting the Grand Canyon, Sedona and Scottsdale. They are planning a three-month visit to India. (continued on page 40)
