Women just didn’t brew beer back then. But I just pushed harder and became the first female brewer in Ventura County. I look at my work through an owner’s eyes, and I treat my job with Enegren as I did in Maui running my own brew floor.” Shauna Gutierrez ’16 (left) Major: Business Administration/ Marketing clients, curating images into a feed and providing them with monthly content. My husband and I had been home brewing for years when we were approached about opening Kohola Brewery on Maui. Every time something in the brewhouse broke, I’d consult with the brothers behind Enegren in Moorpark. CO-FOUNDER: PUBLIC 311 DESIGN, Thousand Oaks, CA
“We create social media content for our needed a new brewer—and I joined their team. Why did you start Public 311?
I was working in social media and content creation, while my mom was styling our home and bringing each space to life. I began to use our home as a backdrop for my employer’s photoshoots. My mom and I began to see that together we could combine our love for styling and photography to help brands, businesses and individuals visually tell their story—and make the transition from selling in person and in store to recreating that experience online through their branded images on social media. Public 311 was born! What was your vision? We felt that we could have a community impact by bringing people together. Once we started to get to know the people walking through our doors, we saw the importance of providing a platform for local artists. We’ve held hundreds of live music events, we produce a full-scale art + music festival, and were even inspired by our community to launch our own clothing line. Highlights:
• Brewing German-style beers! Chris asked me to make a Munich helles. After that, we all got the German bug and the company made a transition to German-style beers. • Winning a Great American Beer Festival award for Enegren’s Nighthawk, a German black lager.
*Brittany is also the co-owner of Kohola Brewery, Maui, Hawaii
Highlights:
• Seeing our images on product packaging in big name retail stores across the country. • Tremendous response from our social media community, with our images reposted by retailers like Crate and
