KOOMARI AND CLUBSACT FORGE NEW WORKING RELATIONSHIP As a part of our agenda to develop enhanced workforce options for our sector, ClubsACT is pleased to announce the beginning of a new working relationship with Koomari designed to create pathways for employment in the hospitality sector for young people with an intellectual disability.

ClubsACT is supporting Koomari in seeking a Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) grant proposal to fund Koomarri’s Traineeship Program for young people with an intellectual disability. ClubsACT has provided a letter of support to Koomari for their initiative to find meaningful employment for people with a disability while also building organisational knowledge and skills to create an accessible and inclusive workplace. The proposed program will provide our members with access to an employment and training framework that can be tailored to their individual circumstances and level of disability confidence. ClubsACT will provide the expertise and networking opportunities required to expand the program across the ACT and assist our member clubs to demonstrate their leadership in this area.

CLUBSACT AND SPARK INDUSTRY TRAINING INITIATIVE ClubsACT, Canberra CIT and SPARK have launched of an industry training program for the hospitality sector and we have high hopes that this initiative will become a standing model for the key stakeholders as an ongoing working relationship between the parties in the training space. The 4-week training program jointly organised by the three organisations is designed to equip 20 participants with the key skills sets and qualifications the will need to work in hospitality. ClubsACT will be providing entrée to on-the-job training options for work experience and introductions to prospective employers at the end of the program. ClubsACT is excited about the opportunities this new program will create for employees and their prospective employers in the club industry.

RSL RELATIONSHIP WITH CLUBSACT We have conducted some preliminary discussions with the RSL about a possible relationship between our two organisations. The RSL have received funding to support the RSL Veteran’ Employment Program and we are now in negotiations to see if we can develop an ongoing relationship between the parties to create employment and training pathways in our sector.

GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE INDUSTRY – LIQUOR TAX ClubsACT has continued the campaign for a range of financial supports for our members to assist with the recovery from the pandemic. We recently organised a meeting with Senator Seselja, representing the Federal Government to lobby over Liquor tax. As part of a campaign jointly conducted by Clubs Australia and the Australian Hotels Association (see attachment), Clubsact organised for a meeting with Senator Seselja and included the AHA ACT Representative Anthony Brierley. The meeting was very positive and our position is supported by the Senator. The indications in the meeting were that the policy position we promoted may get Federal Government support leading into the budget and the election campaign.

ACT GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL SUPPORT ClubsACT has continued lobbying over our concerns that the industry needs broader financial support to rebuild arising from the pandemic. The Lobbying seems to have struck a chord with Minister Rattenbury as he acknowledged in a recent media article that the club industry has endured significant financial impacts and that there may be an impact on club diversification efforts. We will continue to lobby on this issue.
