From the President

The first quarter of 2022 sure is flying by, and if anything, the past twelve months has given us time to reflect on our resolve.

As we continue to adapt with the everchanging business landscape and ensure the longevity of the Club Industry, I thought it is a great time to recall the purpose, role and ambitions of ClubsACT.

ClubsACT has represented community since it was established in 1974 (Formally became Licenced Clubs of ACT in 1976). Throughout those 45 + years the industry has seen its share of opportunities, challenges, and threats. ClubsACT has provided unwavering support and leadership to the Canberra Club sector over this time and have achieved a great deal in the face of challenging circumstances. Most significantly, the ACT continues to be the only jurisdiction where gaming machines are operated exclusively by community clubs.

ClubsACT has always and continues to be recognised as the principal representative body for the ACT Club industry. We engaged and are engaged by the ACT Government and its agencies, Federal government representatives, club and hospitality industry bodies and all other associated organisations.

ClubsACT’s role is to ensure a vibrant and sustainable club industry into the future. We promote and protect the professional interests of community clubs of Canberra by providing clear leadership, representation, advocacy and by working with Clubs to support them to build and maintain capacity and capability. ClubsACT continues in its purpose to protect, advance, promote and support the rights, interests and values of community clubs of the ACT. ClubsACT continues to be a lean and effective organisation with a sound balance sheet and maintains a sustainable financial framework ensuring that membership fees are affordable and are directed towards the achievement of our objectives.

ClubsACT provides a focal point for clubs to establish a shared position on key issues and the opportunity for the club movement in the ACT to work together to meet the challenges and opportunities that the future holds.

Looking forward to continuing a strong and sustainable Industry long into the future.
