PRESIDENTS MESSAGE We are at the verge of completing the first quarter of this term 2013-14. The mission was set and the vision is clear for us to achieve. The members and the Ex-com know what their responsibility is. In July ’13, as we entered into the Fifth year of inception, we were heading to an uphill task. The legacy carried on by our earlier Presidents, gave enough energy for us to carry on the spirit. The platform is set and our current responsibility is to excel the goals set. The growth was steady for AGTC and last year we have achieved Full DCP points for the first time since inception. At this stage we have covered 50% of our DCP requirements. This year, the target is not only for DCP but also take the club to the next level. Fellow Toastmasters, this cannot be achieved without your valuable contributions and efforts. Let us continue the leadership role with our motto “Excel Beyond Measure”

Dear Toastmasters, In the past 7 years of my journey as a Toastmaster, there have been many memorable moments; glimpses of which I wish to share with my friends and family. To bring all those precious moments into this newsletter would be too arduous and exhaustive. Hence, I have chosen the most precious of those moments to mark this release. Most people mark their journey with milestones. Yes! I too am doing the same, but the people whom I came across are all ‘gems’ and hence I have turned my milestones to gemstones. They say it is quite tough to stay on track up to the 10th speech of the basic manual. I just managed and earned a “Competent Communicator Pin”. Doing that inaugural step of my journey my ‘gemstone’ was TM Rekha Utham at WMC Toastmasters Club in the year 2008. The opportunity of meeting several people is a part of every journey – like the poet Tennyson said, “Men may come and men may go” but my memories are forever. The early part of life is a cloudy patch for some and a cloudless clear patch for others, mine had moments to kick-start the rewarding journey from the time I joined Widia (India) Ltd., Bangalore. Meeting important people makes us happy and gives us a ‘feel good’ factor in our lives. I had many of them standing amidst of stalwarts and stars of the Division. I treasure those moment close to my heart like a precious pearl in an ordinary oyster. With the great impact and importance of communication and leadership skills in the daily life and business scenario, our esteemed Managing Director Mr. Adel M Mattar wholeheartedly consented for the Awal Gulf Toastmasters club in April 2009 and the club took birth on 27th April 2009 with the charter president TM Ratinder Nath. When a child gets good grades, he may not understand the grade itself, so the teacher fixes a smiley sticker or a shiny star to please him. As I grow into my Awalgulf journey crossing many junctions I too received a ‘pat on my back’ allowing me to surge ahead. That ‘pat’ came from a guru, guide and coach none other than our own MD Mr. Adel M Mattar. This gemstone makes work a pleasure for people who regard their ‘work as worship’. Birthday bashes is big business for children. At Toastmasters we bring the child residing in all ‘men’ cutting, a cake is not just customary – it is “man”datory and the camaraderie is unbelievable. I am proud that I am in Toastmasters platform where leaders are made. I salute the great visionary Dr. Ralph C Smedley for this wonderful movement. The core benefit I got from joining an organization like this as a Toastmaster, exposed to new thoughts, desires, new concepts, familiarizing with new people, their culture, customs and knowledge sharing, and more over team effort. Hard work, perseverance, cooperation and proper coordination not only benefit the organization but also ensure progress of the whole community. The potters of A’ali village craft pots, whereas the Toastmasters WMC crafted speech craft for potential men and women of Zain. Those momentous hours were life changing, the interactions were precious and the experience was unforgettable. The Zain Speech craft was not just an experience in organizing; it was renowned in several ways, where the rewards spoke for themselves in terms of prestige and honor. As years passed, I enrich my knowledge and polished the hidden talents, I learnt a lot from veteran Toastmasters, and I am trying to adopt their way of approach and their leadership qualities, their humbleness towards solving the problems….these lessons helped me in my career and in family life as well. The culmination of this journey after taking one through junctions like CC, CL, ACB, ALB, ACS, ALS and ACG finally lands one on the launch pad of DTM. One realizes at that peak that this is just a beginning and one has such a long way to go still. The milestones and gemstones encourage us to take on more to outdo oneself and become distinct for ability, stability, credibility and much more. When encouragement becomes the engine behind performers then I am fortunate to have become DTM. To be holding the DTM badge brings more responsibilities and puts the pressure always to maintain the benchmark and upscale it every time we speak, lead and exhibit. This journey would not have been possible without the gemstones to mark my journey. The journey further also will be marked by many more ‘gemstones’ who will enrich my life and make it a precious milestone which will inspire and motivate many others who will follow since this is an endless journey where the more you give the more you get. When motivation is added to life it gives birth to innovation, when innovation is clubbed with team effort; it defines what today Awal Gulf Toastmasters are all about. Affectionately Yours,
SELF BELIEF - Believe in YOU

Self belief is VITAL in everybody’s life. This lubricant called Self Belief is required to move the GIANT wheel called LIFE) forward and keep moving forward. IF I may hasten to ask – How many things we have not done or tried because we lacked belief in ourselves? . Perhaps it would be countless. What is Self Belief?? - To my understanding.. It is to stay positive, think positive and act positive, an optimist who want to be the first in doing things .to know about one’s strength , understanding yourself fully . In fact many fail to believe in themselves because other didn’t .It is pertinent to give a quote ……. “Nobody can make you inferior without your consent”. A person with negative thoughts, pessimist, one who does not believe in himself cannot lead the life by example. He would rather be a laughing stock for others. IF one is focusing on what is not right about oneself, then he is missing opportunities of self belief. We should never assume that there is nothing to improve amongst ourselves. IF one has an inclination, dedication, open mind, he can do wonders and the culmination of all this is self belief. For that to happen.. One should take steps to know his/her perceived weakness and try to improve them and Focus on the current strength. If we rewind, and look at the past, there are many examples where people have excelled in life due to their self belief, who have turned rich from pauper, who have achieved many milestones despite many odds. The reason why I chose the above is because they all have one thing in common – yes , they were physically challenged and yet they rose to fame and are being referred even now and will be referred in the years to come. They did not bother about their physical inability , rather they believed in themselves , their inner strength . Self belief gives you the freedom to make mistakes and learn from it for learning after making mistakes will make a person PERFECT. As your self belief grows people around you start to believe in you more .. Conclusion : The only person who can pull you down is yourself. So please don’t let yourself to be pulled down. It seems that everyone with a computer spends a lot of time acquiring data and then trying to find a way to store it. Finding enough storage space to hold all the data they've acquired is a real challenge. Some people invest in larger hard drives. Others prefer external storage devices like thumb drives or DVDs. But some are choosing to rely on a growing trend: cloud storage.
While cloud storage sounds like it has something to do with weather fronts and storm systems, it really refers to saving data to an off-site storage system maintained by a third party. Instead of storing information to your computer's hard drive or other local storage device, you save it to a remote database. The Internet provides the connection between your computer and the database. How it works A cloud storage system needs just one data server connected to the Internet. A client (e.g., a computer user subscribing to a cloud storage service) sends copies of files over the Internet to the data server, which then records the information. When the client wishes to retrieve the information, he or she accesses the data server through a Webbased interface. The server then either sends the files back to the client or allows the client to access and manipulate the files on the server itself. If you store your data on a cloud storage system, you'll be able to get to that data from any location that has Internet access, using your computers, phones, or tablets. Cloud storage is used as a way to create backups of data. You can back up your Smartphone content on Cloud Storage. Popular Cloud storage service providers are Google Docs, Dopbox and iCloud.

Ever wondered what in one’s life the remarkable accomplishment is!? How does one feel life to be lived to the fullest!? I have been trapped in this vicious loop of questions since long time & doubt it really does nag my conscience. Life, as we know, doesn’t come with a prepackaged meaning. In fact we create the meaning. It does require worthy effort, strength and will power to be put in catalyzed by a good character to achieve the so called accomplishment. To exist as a human is easy, but to live! The real essence of Life comes from all the corners in cusp of a day, months or years, may it be the friends we meet, colleagues we deal with or even the passer by. Everybody has a lesson to teach if you keep your eyes and heart wide open. Our life is affected by various attributes, viz. the values we uphold, thoughts we evoke, the way we grow, the people we interact, etc... Bil Keane once told, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, which is why we call it the present.” We must, as aspiring individuals break the shackles of slumber imposed by the past. Take a moment to cherish the present with happiness and senseless gratitude for you are alive today! Thanks to God! This could make one’s mind cleansed with positive thoughts. In turn we feel an influx of zeal and fervor which drives us happy the whole day and helps remain the same throughout. One would appreciate life much better if learnt to let go of the past, yet hoping for a brighter future. Merely worrying about the miseries will help piling up of negativities in the mind which could ultimately lead us to be busy doing nothing. There are quite couple of instances from within thyself which could bring about a difference in one’s perspective towards life: Try fitting a slight smile on your face all the time. You wouldn’t believe how drastic a change occurs around you in no time. Perhaps we can’t comprehend the thoughts the beholder evokes on seeing us smile. May be that can swipe of the pain and miseries he drags. So keep smiling always, for smiling helps you reduce the stress and apparently cleanse your conscience. While on a conversation, try to be genuinely interested in the other person. Whatsoever, if a person invests his time & emotions by engaging in a talk with you, he deserves to be listened raptly. He chooses only you among others because he has a faith that you would listen keenly. This feeling of compassion could make a lost person feel better to face the challenges thrown to him. Paying sincere and honest appreciation to a person for the smallest of the deed he does is going to make a change. This puny yet worthy act would help him hike his confidence. As humans, all of us are longing for acceptance or approval or acknowledgment or appreciation or whatever you would call it. This is the eternal truth lying deep seated in your mind. All our gestures or acts, in one way or the other is focused on leaving an impression on the beholder. No matter however you argue upon it, the fact remains we want to be under the lime light. You wish to mark a dent in all walks. As such lets help people improve their self esteem & confidence by appreciating even the slightest of the accomplishment he makes. At the end of the day, Life is all about helping others live their life to the fullest. Let’s try to be the reason for a change which could be unfathomable. Empathy for the fellow beings or all the live creatures is one of the finest attribute that can be found in a person. In any given miserable situation if you could fit yourselves in their shoes and act compassionately, then you have won their hearts. I dare you won’t do it, even though we are immensely bestowed with such fine a piece of mental architecture. The empathy, love, compassion for his fellow being is what people are lacking today, which I feel is the root cause of all miseries. So let’s all try to treat others with the love & respect we pay for our grandfathers and the patience we show to our own younger siblings. In a nutshell, Life is all about of uncertainties in every walk. All of us being born are destined to do something! So it goes like this; the world owes us nothing but we owe the world our life! Let’s all, lying within the stints of our capabilities try to make a change. Toastmasters International is one other popular arena which ensures all round development of an individual. It’s a nonprofit organization with a sole purpose of improving the humanity. Once into a toastmasters club, you would feel elated, both in your thinking patterns and in your confidence. The phenomenal transformation that happens to a person after being a Toastmaster is par words. Only experience could second the stated fact! Come.. Join a Toastmasters Club and ‘Be the change you wish to Be’! Change your perspectives, have a vision and live life to the fullest..For life is to be lived and not just Exist!‘

A German once visited a temple under construction where he saw a sculptor making an idol of God. Suddenly he noticed a similar idol lying nearby. Surprised, he asked the sculptor, "Do you need two statues of the same idol?" "No," said the sculptor without looking up, "We need only one, but the first one got damaged at the last stage." The gentleman examined the idol and found no apparent damage. "Where is the damage?" he asked. "There is a scratch on the nose of the idol." said the sculptor, still busy with his work. "Where are you going to install the idol?" The sculptor replied that it would be installed on a pillar twenty feet high. "If the idol is that far, who is going to know that there is a scratch on the nose?" the gentleman asked. The sculptor stopped work, looked up at the gentleman, smiled and said, "I will know it." The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. "Excellence" is a drive from inside, not outside.
