nabelle De La Rosa is a singer and songwriter, having realized she wanted to be one when she saw a group singing and dancing when she was 12 years old. "Each one of them had a massive smile on their face, singing about peace and how music goes beyond the countries' borders," Anabelle enthused. "They were dancing together to the same choreography." Even though Anabelle has grown up, she hasn't changed much. "I still can't drink alcohol or stay up late," quips Anabelle. In fact, she doesn't like to party, and says no to smoking. But she is pretty much on a natural high. Maybe that is because she is shy and introverted to start with. But she gets really high when she is around people. In addition to that, music is her drug.

on Earth who feels it and who needs it, just like Anabelle did. Music is her comfort because she can feel the many people and souls needed to create a great piece of music. She can feel who shares the thoughts and feelings of the audience. So music never leaves her and you alone. You are always with someone, as long as you "I want someone to feel they are supported," Anabelle compassionately discloses. "Their thoughts are shared and they aren't alone. They have my essence through my songs. They can always talk to me, and I will have the answer. If you are feeling down, I have the words to cheer you up. If you want to have fun, I have the sounds to prop you up. If you are bored, I have something to entertain you." Music is her passion. This is what she has chosen to do. She will never abandon it. She is proud to be always immersed in music.

"Music, the fast beat of the drum, the low bass sounds, the electronic synthesis. It's all a drug that I cannot get out of my system," Anabelle co The lyrics that she can relate to are her comfort. The lyrics that read like nonsense are the distractions to take her attention away and keep her calm. Anabelle realizes, "I can't write songs that are going to be loved by every single person on Earth. But I want to build a home where I can always come back to, when I get a particular feeling." You know you have a home within her song. The song can be fun, happy, sad or cheerful, messy, chaotic, painful, dreadful or miserable. Whatever the song is about, there is someone

REST, RECOVER, RECUPERATE ost of us who get addicted to working out gets to the point of over training. "Burnout" is a sign of overtraining that some of us don't fully understand. Our body is designed to function to it's fullest if we eat right and train right, but what we forget is our body also needs the right amount of rest. Rest day should be a part of our training program. We do not rest just because we are injured. We need rest to give our muscles and joints time to recover. The saying "No Pain No Gain" should be erased in our minds because reality is when there is pain there is no gain. I know what most of you are thinking now as you are reading this article. Most of you will be saying "but if I rest I won't burn fat". Don't worry because we now have what we call "Active Recovery". Active recovery is an easier workout than your normal workout. An example is If you are a marathon runner you can have short distance slow paced jogging on your days off. Here are some active recovery workout ideas. The following carry a low risk of injury and agree with most trainees: Self -Myofascial release (SMR) – Foam rolling is one form of SMR: the objective is to use implements such as foam rollers, lacrosse balls, and other specialty items (the stick, theracane) etc. in an effort to “massage your muscles.” Although the exact mechanisms behind SMR are unclear, consistent foam rolling may improve range of motion, and decrease an over active muscles tone. Foam rolling has allowed thousands of athletes to train at high levels and avoid stiffness that comes with heavy training. On your off day, try passing over all major muscle groups with a foam roller. Aim for 30 seconds on each large muscle group, avoiding joints and bony areas. Focus a little extra time on problem areas and pin point troublesome areas by using a lacrosse ball. Monitor your pressure; remember, the goal is to feel better after foam rolling. Walking – a great thing to do for active recovery. Not only can it burn calories, but also being outside can increase your feelings of well-being. The amount of walking you do on off days should be based on your current fitness level, and your training schedule.

WORDS CHRIS HERNANDEZ

Lighter Weight Lifting – Performing an exercise that made you particularly sore, but using a much lighter weight may be restorative. As a guide, use a weight at or below 30 percent of your usual weight, and perform one set shy of failure. Hiking – like walking, it can burn significant calories. Once again it must be tailored towards your current fitness level. If you feel worse after the hike then when you started it probably has done more harm than good as far as active recovery sake. Swimming – particularly low stress due to the weightlessness. You can have a great swimming workout engaging the muscular and cardiovascular system without added pressure on your joints. Take into consideration current fitness level. Yoga – mobility work can be a form of active recovery that can be done every day. Typically each joint in the body is taken through a safe range of motion. Yoga is an example of mobility work that some people use as active recovery. It can be beneficial if you appreciate your current fitness level and learn from a good instructor. Cycling – like the other forms of aerobic exercise can be a great active recovery workout, as long as you match the intensity to your current fitness levels. If You Are Doing Some Active Recovery, Be Smart One of the biggest problems related to active recovery is that people assume that more exercise will allow them to lose more fat. Whether trainees choose to use active recovery workouts or take full days off, understand that as long as you are on a sensible training program, your eating habits will make a much bigger difference in how you look then a couple extra exercise sessions. Don’t sell yourself short and over train on days that you should be using active recovery/resting, doing so is a quick way to burn out and ultimately lose steam towards your goals. So forget about the saying "No Pain No Gain". You must understand that with active recovery you can get back to your next training day stronger and bring your fitness to a higher level.

Cecilia’s family stayed in Japan until she was 2 years old, before the family decided to move and live in El Salvador. But she went back to Japan in 1988 as the civil war in the country was beginning to evolve and get bigger. Having moved back and forth in her formative years enabled Cecilia to be fluent in English, Japanese and Spanish. She went back to El Salvador to continue her studies, and she graduated as a Medical Doctor from Evangelica University of El Salvador. Moving back to Japan, she decided to pursue a career in modeling. She recently won the the prestigious award for Best Body Japan Yokohama 2014 (Women’s Division), and will joining the national finals come December. aiwan is always associated with Taipei. But this time, I won’t be talking about Taipei, instead I will share one of Taiwan’s lesserknown city, Kaohsiung. I was assigned for some supervisory works in one of the refineries there and asked a oneday off from my superior. That gave me the chance to go around the city. I thought it would be very easy to navigate and in case there will be a problem along the way, I can always ask for help. Most of the times, in sign language. First things first, the Chinese food. It never fails to amaze me. In every corner of the streets you can see lots of stalls selling various kinds of foods and delicacies. From duck to snakes to stinky tofu. Name it and you’ll have it. Kaohsiung has this MRT to boost for. I was chewing a gum when I entered the station and the officer politely told me that it is not allowed. Sorry, I wasn’t able to see the posters about it. I obliged. One of the stations, Formosa Boulevard, is a tourist attraction itself. The ceiling as well as its details is a delight. I recommend you to stop by this

station in case you are in the area. I also went to World Games Stadium. It has great architectural details and is relatively new. Perhaps the maintenance team is doing a good job. But there is one sculpture that really caught my eye, the red swirl, it may have some symbolism but I couldn’t find any related articles about it. The city is not that big. You can explore it in one day but no one is stopping you to go around at night though lots of tourist attractions were already closed. Some of them were still open though, one of them was Tuntex Sky Tower. It is said to be the tallest building in Taiwan before Taipei 101 was constructed. Next stop was in Love Pier. This may be dedicated to couples in Taiwan. It was kind of dark when I arrived and the park was about to close so I didn’t have the chance to explore the place. It has a bicycle ramp with lights on the wooden floor, too bad it was already off. If ever I will return to Kaohsiung again, I guess I need a day or two to completely visit all the tourist spots there, in case I missed something. Try visiting Kaohsiung instead of Taipei for a change. And yes, Kaohsiung has an international airport too. Volume 3 No.18 CLUB FILIPINA

t a very young age, our cover girl Cristina is no beginner when it comes to modeling. Having graced several magazine spreads and modeled for numerous car shows and events - one could easily say she is a veteran in the business. The good thing about her is that even with her new found popularity, she remains down to earth and easily approachable. A lot of people she have worked with find Cristina fun and enjoyable to work with, be it an early morning shoot or staying up until the wee hours of dawn she would always have a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Our cover babe, is not the party type as she prefers long sensual massages over drinks and loud music. Like most of the models we featured in the magazine, Cristina loves to eat (clearly not evident on her sexy body) and watch movies with her friends or family. Cristina plans to concentrate more on her modeling career and reach her goal to be a well known international model soon. Gracing the cover of a Japan (and international) based magazine like Club Filipina magazine is just one of the steps she is taking to pursue her goal. “I’m really glad to be part of Club Filipina magazine, specially now that i'll be touring Japan very soon and hoping to get to meet our kababayans in Japan”

Naoji Kitaoka, President & CEO
