INCOMING AT MYER ADELAIDE

NEWS BY TAMMY TU

As if there wasn’t enough reason to visit the range of stores on offer at the Myer Centre, we now have even more incentive to come in and shop. Myer has just introduced Seed, Clavin Klein footware, Jack Jones and French Connection to the brands available in their Adelaide store.

FIND YOUR STYLE AT RUNDLE PLACE Since its redevelopment, Rundle Place has come to be a shopping haven in Rundle Mall, with some of our favorite stores including Witchery, Kookai, Country Road, Novo, Napoleon Perdis and Ted Baker. Add to that Harris Scarfe, the Apple Store and a massive food court, and you can just about spend a whole day there. From September 14 until October 4, you can book a free one-hour styling session in the Rundle Place Style Lounge with a member of The Style Collective. This fashion dream team, made up of stylists including Markus Hamence, Tiffany Hill and Cimon Vozzo, will take you on a guided shopping tour of Rundle Place, tailored to your individual style (and, importantly, budget). One member of The Style Collective, Kate Bowden, has had over 10 years' experience

Seed has just added a female clothing concession on Level 1 along with French Connection’s womenswear line. Don’t worry guys, they haven’t forgotten about you either with the French Connection men’s range on show on level 3. And if you’re shopping for the whole family in one go,

did you know that Seed also has a children’s line? The ridiculously cute range for tiny humans is

1. Long loose layers. Women can tend to be afraid to wear anything that’s not completely form-fitting because doing so is habitual, but it’s fresh and contemporary to layer one of this season’s long-line waistcoats (one of my favorites is a tan suede one from Country Road) over a wideleg pant or a-line calf-length skirt has the added effect of making you appear taller. 2. Get some khaki into your wardrobe. It’s this season’s ‘gotta have it’ colour. In fact, go crazy with it. I always feel really strong in it, too – must be that military influence.

now also available at Myer. While these are already familiar brands, there is nothing better than being able to access all your favourites in one stop. There’s no excuse not to stop in and shop.

3. There’s nothing that will turn heads faster than white on white. An all-white outfit just enchants the eye for some reason. But keep it safe by opting for relaxed-fit items, and here’s another styling tip: watch where you sit and consider choosing something other than the bolognese for lunch!

If there’s anything we’ve become accustomed to here in Adelaide over the past few years, it's change. New bars and new restaurants are opening every week and it’s creating a whole new name for our state. It only seems natural that our constantly growing fashion scene becomes a part of this crucial change as well, with a completely revamped 2015 Adelaide Fashion Festival, proudly presented by Mercedes-Benz Adelaide.

hile traditionally held in its original birthplace of the City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, Adelaide’s

premier fashion event is making the move to its new home in Hindmarsh Square where it will run over four days from October 22 to October 25. “The Adelaide Fashion Festival will showcase South Australia’s growing local fashion industry with the opportunity for design houses to show their works on the international and national stage,” says Premier Jay Weatherill. “Renowned designers are working tirelessly to prepare for the Festival with many producing new collections to showcase exclusively at the event.” An astounding 22 local designers will be showcasing in the festival this year – including all your former festival favourites as well as some of the newer kids on the block. Think Liza Emanuele, Alexis George, Couture+Love+Madness right through to Australian Fashion Label’s brand new label TY-LR as well as young guns such as casper&pearl and Simmone Standing the Label. The program ranges from solo runways and presentations to collaborative shows as well as a stunning event at the Art Gallery of South Australia A Night of Fashion. Supporting emerging designers will continue to be a priority for 2015. Our state's fashion industry is continually growing and the amount of young

A film maker, graphic design buff and, when time permits, a musician, Melbourne creative Becky Freeman has undergone her share of transformations in the last three years.

I train exactly the same as my Bikini Body Guide (BBG) Girls! I do 3-4 resistance training sessions from my Bikini Body Training Guide every week. Each workout is 28-minutes long, which is only 2% of my day. I also take my Siberian Huskies, Ace and TJ, for walks most days of the week. I believe that it’s vital to look after your body and invest time into rehabilitation and recovery, which is why I also incorporate 1-2 stretching and rehabilitation sessions each week.

WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THE FUTURE?

TELL US ABOUT YOUR RECENT WORLD TOUR? Going on my World Tour has definitely been one of my biggest achievements so far! Being able to meet and train with the incredible BBG community in person was such an amazing experience. I trained nearly 10,000 girls across Amsterdam, London and New York. It’s definitely still a ‘pinch me’ moment.

HOW HAS SOCIAL MEDIA CHANGED YOUR CAREER? Social media has been an amazing tool that has given me the ability to motivate, educate and inspire women, not only in Adelaide, but around the world. I think my Instagram profile has an honest and uplifting community vibe about it. Instead of being focused entirely on me, I’ve based it on the results of others, whose hard work should definitely be celebrated.

CAN YOU RUN US THROUGH YOUR GUIDE? My Bikini Body Guide includes 12 weeks of 28-minute high-intensity plyometric, resistance training sessions, which are completed 3-4 times per week. It also includes an extensive education section as well as my recommendations for the

RKSHOP

In late July, CLIQUE ran a photography workshop with our friends from DIAMONDS CAMERA and OLYMPUS. The aim was to learn how to take amazing food photos, so we thought what better setting than the beautiful SEAN’S KITCHEN and their delectably photogenic food? Don’t worry if you weren’t quick enough to snap up the lucky tickets, we have a little overview for you. P H OTOS BY D U Y DAS H

T

he morning started with an introduction to Ian Leggatt and his experienced team from Diamonds Camera Rundle Street as well one of Olympus' photography trainers, Matt Krumins, who made a special trip from Melbourne for the event. While Diamonds Camera stocks other brands for all your photographic needs, this session’s camera of choice was the Olympus OM-D E-M10. This may just seem like a series of numbers to the average person, as well as to everyone else in the room that morning, but by the end of the session we were all pretty handy with this nifty little camera with state-of-the-art features.

The idea of the workshop was to learn all the tips and tricks that the professionals use to make our own food photos better. In the age of social media and the large range of platforms on offer – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

– we have all been guilty of snapping a photo of our meal in order to show off what we’ve had for lunch. But as the team from Diamonds and Olympus reminded us, it is not just the food we’re taking a photo of, we are also selling a whole story that includes the restaurant, the environment and the overall ambience. Out of everyone, the team here at Clique Mag know how important it is to get a good shot as well as create a good feeling about an eatery – just look at our food pages! We were taught all the tricks including how to change aperture to create depth of field as well as the power of lighting in taking the perfect photo. A big tip for the avid foodie is to assess where the best lighting is when you first walk into a café or restaurant and mark your territory – hint: at Sean’s Kitchen, it’s the beautiful outside area. We were broken up into smaller groups to learn about off-camera flash as well as how to counteract LED lighting – basically teaching us how to troubleshoot all the problems we can face in attempting to achieve the best possible food shot.

It's safe to say that, by the end of the workshop, everyone involved walked away not only with a better knowledge of how to take a food photo but also some great photography tips in general. Not to mention that we were all pretty sold on the OM-D E-M10 camera by the end of the workshop – it has wi-fi so you can download the photos straight to your phone, what more could you want? Luckily for us Adelaideans, because Diamonds Camera is a specialty store, anyone who purchases an Olympus OM-D camera with them will also get a ‘Coffee on Olympus’. This is where an Olympus trainer will take you out for a coffee and take you through the ins and outs of your new camera because they really care about the quality of the photos that are created with their equipment. Clique Mag would like to thank Ian and his team for their expertise and to everyone who joined us for a great session. Keep an eye out for upcoming workshops and short seminars and be quick so you don’t miss out on a great workshop with like-minded creatives. Visit diamondcamera.com.au/training for announcements.

WHEN IN SOUTH EAST ASIA DO –– –01 Barter. –02 Don’t be afraid to eat street food. (I didn’t get sick once the whole trip!) –03 Book as you go. –014 Go to Hoian in Vietnam (this was my favourite place on the whole trip). –05 Stay in a few hostels (this is how you meet new people). –06 Experience, eat and learn yourself about all the different cultures. –07 Learn how to say the basics in their language – this goes a long way.

DON'T –– –01 Do not leave your credit card in the ATM machine in Bali – the card comes out AFTER the cash (my boyfriend and I both did this in the first week of travelling! Rookie errors). –02 Do not get conned into buying a tailored suit before checking Trip Advisor first! –03 BEWARE of a cheap tuk tuk deal. There is ALWAYS a catch. –04 Don’t proudly boast your pink plastic shopping bag in the markets (yes they are colour coded depending how easy you are to sell to. Pink being easy, blue being hard). –05 Don’t book your flights home during school holidays. (Had to learn this the hard way). –06 Avoid a hostel on an intersection in Vietnam or Cambodia. They toot all through the night!!

oseph sits humbly in his home, surrounded by an eclectic collection of furniture, art, records and trinkets. His belongings aren’t just for show. Joseph isn’t the kind

of person to chase a trend. He’s a self-accepted “normcore” guy, with a lineup of cereal boxes in the pantry and collection of neglected baseball caps. But his belongings have their own stories, and Joseph can tell you about each and every one of them. Like the stone bison sculpture he found at the Boat Shed Markets. Or the tribal spears he bought from the knick-knack store on Duthy Street. Or the traditional flax comb he won at an auction. “I’m a sucker for the sentimental pieces, I "spose,” says Joseph. It was a vintage sideboard passed on from his grandmother that first caught Joseph’s interest in finding rare and interesting pieces for his house. “I’ve been buying tiny things from tiny shops for a long time now. I wouldn’t have gone three days without picking up something and over the last seven years.” Joseph doesn’t shop online. He’s found all of these items with his own hands, from a variety of stores, auctions, jumble sales or had them passed down by his family. The theme of the house is hard to pin down. ‘Evolving’ would be a good way to explain it. “I used to like retro and now I don’t like retro at all. I like a piece that is stylish, irrespective of the era. Like, I never used to look at contemporary pieces, but now I do.”

In the living room sits a brimming collection of records, that don’t get a chance to collect dust. Like the furniture, his evolving taste can take you from Buddy Holly and Talking Heads, to Roy Ayes and Sergio Mendes. The sign of a good night is when the gingerbread man cookie cutter, whichsits on the window sill near the record player, has danced to a new location from too many good vibrations. As part-owner of the equally quaint Proof bar, Joseph has found another reason (and excuse) to keep searching for beautiful and unusual items. “I love looking at statement pieces, but I can’t really fit any more stuff in my current house. I’m lucky that I can look for pieces that might apply at the bar too.” It’s clear that Joseph enjoys the hunt. It’s not just about the object, but where it came from. “You could buy something on eBay, but where’s the reward in that? It takes some of the shine off.”
