― At Butcombe Nursery and Preschool, we nurture each child as they embark on an exciting journey of exploration, discovery and learning. We provide a safe and stimulating environment, a home from home, where each child’s self-confidence and independence grows.
We will help your child to explore the world and develop their ideas through a wide range of noisy and quiet activities, through outdoor and indoor play, and through a variety of trips, visits and events.
Your child’s emotional, physical and developmental needs will be supported from day one by their own individual key person. This person will become a familiar figure to your child and will act as a daily point of contact for you.

These extra curricular activities promote independence within our youngest children and encourage them to explore the world around them. All of the sessions are run by specialists who work in Clifton College Pre-Prep, which provides our children with a familiar face and a seamless transition into Reception.
― We have collaborated with the catering staff to design a specific menu to meet the needs of our youngest children. Our food is all homemade on site and does not contain any added salt or sugar. If your child is not yet on solids, our Nursery staff can blend their portion of food to the appropriate consistency and if your child has dietary requirements, our catering staff can adapt the menu accordingly.

― Our menus offer healthy options at every mealtime. We add only the minimum amount of salt, fats and oils to the dishes we prepare, and do not provide salt on the tables. We are very careful not to offer too many sugary foods.
18 ⸺
If your child has specialised dietary needs, please let us know so we can advise which meals will be suitable from the wide selection we offer. We encourage eating in a ‘family sitting’ style, and getting together as much as possible in the Nursery. We prioritise giving our children the space to learn manners and communicate in a way that promotes sharing with and caring for those around the table. During meal times, we often see children learning about their environment in new ways.

Parent partnership is an integral part of Nursery life, and helps both our children and their families to feel safe and secure throughout the day. We know how valuable daily updates are to our families, and use two apps to inform you about your child’s day. The Interactive Learning Diary (ILD) is an online portal, allowing you to keep up to date with your child’s learning journey. Your child’s key person will record observations and assessments, which you will then be able to access from home. This builds up a record of your child’s activities, accomplishments and next

Parental partnership steps, for us to share with you as parents. All of your child’s progress will be assessed in line with the Early Years Curriculum. The Interactive Nursery Manager (INM) is the wellbeing app connected to the ILD. This will allow you to see how your child has been throughout the day. The Nursery staff will input how your child has eaten, slept, and how many nappies they have had each day. The INM will also notify you of any accidents or incidents your child has had. We will however always contact you directly if your child is hurt or unwell. We pride ourselves on creating a home from home experience for our children and their families, and blend home life with Nursery to help connect the two environments.

A sense of community ―We pride ourselves on our strong engagement with our parents and the wider community. Pick up and drop offs are an important part of our engagement with parents and encourages an open and regular line of communication. Parents receive the Early Years e-newsletter each week which shares highlights of the Nursery week. Parents also have access to the Interactive Learning Diary, where they can log in to see photographs, news stories and event information.
24 ⸺
We encourage parents, grandparents and other family members to come along to our regular events, such as Stay and Play, tea parties or Grandparents’ Day.
The nursery enjoys strong links with the local community and has connections with a diverse range of Bristol businesses. We are also proud to have a historical link with our neighbour, Bristol Zoo. These links bring further knowledge, expertise, resource and opportunity into learning.

A seamless transition between the Nursery and the College’s three schools provides children with security and stability. Butcombe Nursery and Preschool is the very beginning of your child’s school journey. We make sure your child is prepared for life beyond.

Our Pre-Preparatory School is for boys and girls aged 4 to 8 and ensures your child has the best possible start to school life through its innovative and nurturing environment.
