ISLAND TIME The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort Reaching 10 Years of Exotic Luxury
A
ny time you picture a trip to the South Pacific, you envision a scene out of a movie: Clear blue waters flanking powdery white sands and swaying palms, all near thatched huts and coral reefs with a colorful array of tropical fish. Kevyn Wynn Launches Successful Luxury Line of Cocktail Slippers After searching and finding no pair of stylish but comfortable
slippers, Kevyn Wynn, daughter of well-known Las Vegas hotelier Steve Wynn, decided to create her own. Finding she spent more time at home, Wynn sought out a pair of fashionable slippers, a style that would be comfortable yet still elegant, first at area boutiques and then online. Bulky, solely practical, or rugged options were all she managed to come across, so, in response, she reached out to the woman who provided slippers and robes to her family’s hotels with her own designs. The woman encouraged Wynn to have them made, and in the process, introduced her to someone who does shoe design. Called “cocktail slippers,” Wynn’s eponymous collection features a line of vintage-inspired, hand-stitched mule-style footwear that’s both a continuation of her own interest in shoes and a representation of her family’s entrepreneurial mindset and interest in fine living. With these points in mind, Wynn didn’t just have anyone create her debut collection, now out in stores. passion and skill, she sought out a couple with 30 years of experience in the industry. The result combines fine Italian fabrics with quality leather soles, many details, and, importantly, a comfortable fit. The collection, in general, bridges two ideals. Yet, they’re not entirely formal; any pair from the Kevyn Wynn Collection has a casual enough aesthetic that a woman can wear them while running errands or going out with friends. he Gulf of Mexico’s crystal blue waters and white sands create the scenery at the South Seas Island Resort, located on Captiva Island, Florida. But, more than just a stunning sight to take in, the island’s east-towest orientation makes it one of the world’s top destinations for shelling, as well as observing wildlife and doing plenty of family-friendly onthe-water activities. Originally a key lime plantation, South Seas opened first as a fishing resort in 1946 and, over time, evolved into a 330-acre beach destination taking advantage of Captiva’s and nearby Sanibel Island’s landscape for beauty and recreation. Both possess some of the purest stretches of sand, where you can find 250 types of seashells, while the nearby landscape is home to 230 species of birds. This past season, Clientele Luxury spent two nights at the hotel. The resort started doing renovations this summer, with work continuing until fall, and the changes were evident in our room: The modern character now makes guests just feel a little more at home with a coastal, cozy feel. But, first, the smaller, boutique style takes you away from the business present at many resorts in the area. Rather, we found hospitality to be paramount: Upon entering, staff greeted us and offered a choice of sparkling champagne or cider, while the valet
was readily available to park our car. That same attentiveness coupled with an elegant atmosphere by the beach extended to our room. Newly renovated, it went above and beyond the standard features with rainfall shower heads, various hand-held devices, and an extra supply of pillows. Servers were ready when we needed anything, with drinks offered quickly and efficiently. In total, Edgewater’s designed with 125 suites, divided into four basic types. Later, he worked at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel’s Oak Room and Bar, where he led the introduction and development of an American brassiere at the 4-star Oak Long Bar + Kitchen. A year later, he tried his own Executive Chef restaurant, Seasons 52. Stefan Jaraush Through distinctly New England ingredients, Jaraush adds dishes like his popular Fisherman’s Bowl to the menu, while Choi has created a unique spin on a popular New England dessert with his famous Boston cream pie. ome consider Belize to reside in the crossroads of Central American and Caribbean cultural spheres. On one hand, the architecture and English colonial influence present in the islands pervade this nation, while the farther you go inland, Mayan ruins hint at its ancient history. But, in line with this dichotomy, Belize’s position creates the type of Caribbean vacation atmosphere travelers seek out but without the large resort crowds and touristy atmosphere.
