The Government has published its response to a series of significant recommendations from the licensing policy sprint Taskforce, made up of representatives from the hospitality industry, government and police, to remove barriers to growth and unnecessary red tape to drive investment from pubs, clubs and restaurants across the UK. The reforms target what industry leaders describe as decades of accumulated bureaucratic burden that has stifled growth and investment. In April this year a joint industry and HM government licensing policy sprint
taskforce was established on 9 April 2025, ran until 16 May 2025, and was cochaired by Nick Mackenzie, CEO of Greene King, and Gareth Thomas MP, Minister for Services, Small Business and Exports. The taskforce sought to review and make recommendations delivering effective change in the licensing system that fosters vibrant hospitality, night-time economy, creative and cultural industries, and provided government with 10 priority recommendations to consider.
