Sector leaders and trade bodies say the Government’s latest spending review seriously risks undermining a fragile recovery in the drinks and hospitality sectors, and have once again called for urgent tax reform, investment in transport and targeted support for independent venues and producers. The overall consensus is one of dismay to Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ first spending review,with accusations that the government is overlooking a sector still
grappling with the long-term impacts of the pandemic, inflation, and rising operational costs. Many warned that the absence of meaningful measures and increased tax burdens for hospitality sends a worrying signal about the government’s commitment to one of the UK’s largest private sector employers.
