A centre of excellence for our local community

Providing our community with an exceptional education for all At Harris Academy Tottenham, we have an unwavering belief in the potential of every child. A strong sense of family values underpins our innovative approach to education. As an all-through Academy, we have created a community which encourages parents to be at the centre of their children’s education. We combine the traditional values of strong discipline, smart uniform and good manners with the best of modern teaching and technology. We have an aspirational culture in which pupils endeavour to open their minds to new ideas and collaborate with others to excel in their learning. Our values embody our approach to education: • Endeavour is to strive for our goals through maintaining the highest expectations of ourselves; • Enjoy is to take delight and pleasure in the learning process and gain a feeling of success through relentless passion and drive; • Excel is to achieve our full potential through the mastery of concepts and an ambition to be the best we can be.

We expect our pupils to try their very best at all times, and to enjoy and relish the challenges and opportunities that learning brings. This will enable them to excel at whatever they set their minds to. From the earliest experiences in our Prep Phase, we will know your child and will be able to provide personalised learning to GCSE and A level, with smooth transitions across each phase. As part of our specialism in mathematics, we work with specialist leaders in education and some of the UK’s top universities to focus on developing pupils’ mathematical skills. We want to ensure that your child has the skills to compete on the world stage. Our new specialist facilities, including a state-ofthe-art theatre, recording studio and the soon to be developed Sports facilities will provide our pupils with limitless opportunities to showcase their talents to all within the local community and beyond. We are incredibly proud of the professional approach our pupils take to learning and the commitment of all at the Academy. Ms Lisa Kattenhorn Principal

Uninterrupted education from nursery until university Whilst we are a new and growing school, our ethos is grounded in the best traditions of hard work, good manners, smart uniform and academic achievement. Pupils entering the school in Year 7 have the opportunity of a place in our Sixth Form where they will be taught by teachers they already know and respect. Class sizes are kept as small as possible. The atmosphere is disciplined and rigorous but also exciting and rewarding.

Excellent teaching in every classroom Learning at Harris Academy Tottenham has a focus on mastery and challenge to ensure your child is capable of utilising their knowledge and skills across a range of contexts. Our culture places a love of learning beyond anything else. As part of the Harris Federation, our teachers work with colleagues from our sister schools to share their best ideas and develop interesting and engaging approaches to teaching. As an all-through Academy, our colleagues collaborate to ensure our provision is cohesive and progressive at all stages of the curriculum. We are fortunate to have developed partnerships with a range of prestigious institutions including The Royal Ballet School and RADA and we are extending our provision for the Performing Arts curriculum in our state-of-the-art Theatre.

Learning does not begin and end at the classroom door; pupils participate regularly in educational visits, work placements, activity days and masterclasses across a range of topics. These visits helps us to ensure that we are bringing pupil learning to life!

Our curriculum The curriculum is broad and balanced with an aim that we produce knowledgeable and well-educated young people at the end of their Sixth Form careers. Our core offer leads to the well-respected English Baccalaureate, with good GCSE passes in English Language and Literature, Maths, Science, History or Geography and a language. Our other subjects include Art, Design Technology, Religious Education, Drama, PE, Music, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), Classics and Enrichment.

We want to ensure our pupils have excellent mathematical skills and understanding when they leave us. With a focus on mastery we will ensure that pupils are well prepared for the challenges of their future careers and further education, whilst at the same time preparing them to achieve the very best in their GCSE examinations. The Enterprise specialism equips our pupils to be self-starters, work well in teams and contribute to their community as well as to their own personal enterprises.

With specialisms in Maths and Enterprise, the themes of ‘mathematical thinking’ and ‘being enterprising’ run through all subject areas and beyond the curriculum.

A personal best culture We believe that when a school gives its pupils the confidence to believe they are capable of excellence, this is exactly what they go on to achieve. Our pupils are supported by a hand-picked team of excellent teachers who take the time to get to know and understand every young person in their care. There are three Harris Academy Tottenham values that define the way in which our pupils learn and behave: Endeavour – we expect pupils to be committed to learning, to strive to achieve their very best and rise to the challenges and opportunities that they encounter. We support them to achieve their very best through a personalised curriculum combined with a caring and supportive pastoral system.

Enjoy – We want pupils to enjoy their learning and to know the feeling of success which comes through relentless passion and drive. We deliver an engaging curriculum with plenty of opportunities for pupils to be involved in extra-curricular activities and to develop beyond the classroom. Excel – We believe that all pupils have the potential to achieve the very best outcomes. We have a no-excuses culture and will support your son or daughter to fulfil their potential; with high aspirations, drive and the ambition that is evident within all Harris Academies. Every pupil has an individual timetable. Their progress is tracked rigorously and frequently through regular academic reviews. We have a dedicated programme for more able pupils as well as supportive, bespoke assistance for pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Extra-curricular activities Our broad range of extracurricular activities includes Art, Drama and Debating Societies, as well as a range of choirs, dance groups and musical ensembles.

We want every pupil to have the chance to shine. Whenever there is demand for a new club or activity, we always try to find a way to make it happen.

We are in the process of developing our brand new sports facilities that will allow us to offer an exciting range of activities, whilst pupils who want to will also be able to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

Our Enrichment Curriculum provides pupils in Year 7 and 8 with further opportunities to sample a range of activities. Sessions over the past year have included Spanish Music, Historical Drama, Sport Science and Manga, to name but a few!

PUPIL Leadership We know that, when given the opportunity, pupils can have a profound impact on their schools. Involvement in pupil leadership and voice activities

can improve pupils’ learning as well as helping them to develop the skills and traits needed for success outside of the classroom.

Making our Year 7 PUPILS feel welcome From the moment they arrive here at the beginning of September, we want our Year 7 pupils to feel welcome, safe and cared for. By feeling settled early on, they can begin to grasp all that we have to offer: academic, social and extracurricular. In their first week here, every Year 7 will meet their tutor, who will coach them, set goals with them and make sure they settle in well. They will be part of a vertical tutor group and we will ensure each tutor group develops as a learning family, the older pupils will act as mentors and they will be able to guide them as they progress through the Academy.

6

We also have a Faculty System, similar to a House System, with all manner of inter-Faculty competitions. By putting pupils into these smaller communities, they feel a greater sense of belonging. Pupils are encouraged to win points and prizes for their Faculty through good attendance and behaviour. As parents, you will receive reports home regularly so that you are fully informed about your son or daughter’s education. We will work closely with you to make sure that whether they need to be challenged more, supported more or are somewhere in the middle, your son or daughter is treated in the way that suits them best.
