Tonight, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers will face off for the first time this season. The Cavs won both meetings against the Clippers last season, including a 114-89 victory at Quicken Loans Arena on Jan. 31, 2010. On that night, the Cavs tied an NBA record with 11 three-pointers in the first quarter on their way to a franchise-record tying 46-point opening period. Daniel Gibson shot 4-5 from deep and finished with 14 points and six assists. Cleveland has won the last eight meetings with the Clippers and leads the all-time series 65-46. The Cavs are in the midst of an eight-game homestand at The Q, where they have won the last eight games against the Clippers. In Wednesday’s home contest against Detroit, Ramon Sessions had 20 points, six rebounds, 12 assists and a career-high five steals in 43 minutes. Only one other player in the NBA has notched those
numbers in a game this season (Chris Paul). Over his last five games, Sessions is averaging 19.8 points on .596 shooting, 4.6 rebounds, 10.4 assists and 2.0 steals in 39.4 minutes per game. After tonight, the Cavs will continue their home stretch on Sunday against the Washington Wizards. The Clippers are one of the NBA’s best interior offensive teams, averaging 47.1 points in the paint (2nd in NBA). The team also grabs the fourthmost offensive rebounds (12.4), while allowing the fourthlowest opponent rebounding total in the league (39.7). Clippers forward Blake Griffin is an NBA All-Star in just his rookie season and is averaging 22.6 points, 12.6 rebounds (4th in NBA) and 3.5 assists. The Cavs and Clippers will play their final meeting this season on March 19th at STAPLES Center.
