FATIGUE RISK MITIGATION OPTALERT’s technology provides risk mitigation on three levels.

Level 1

Frontline Risk Mitigation

Simply allowing an operator to continuously see their alertness level with the visual indicator enables the operator to actively manage their drowsiness by adjusting their actions to keep risk within acceptable levels. Empowering operators to manage their drowsiness, coupled with visual and audible alarms as drowsiness levels increase, provides frontline risk mitigation before risk can escalate to dangerous levels.

DATA CASE STUDY A major mining company in Australia incorporated OPTALERT as part of their fatigue management strategy. Their night heavy haul shift began at 7 pm with operators taking their first break at 11 pm. As the risk profile for that shift began to build, it was very clear that the risk level of the entire shift spiked at 10:30 pm to an unacceptable level. With this information,

Real-time Data Transmission

the mining company adjusted their shift schedule to begin a break at 10:30 pm. This simple change significantly lowered the overall risk profile for the night heavy haul shift. This is a

Operators JDS scores and risk profiles can be transmitted in real-time to accountable parties, such as control rooms and/or supervisors. The ability to monitor an entire fleet’s risk profile at any given moment allows accountable parties to take suitable actions before risk escalates. The real-time monitoring system provides a continuous snapshot of the company’s entire fatigue risk profile from an online source and can be provided to any accountable party anywhere in the world.

Quantitative Reporting, KPIs & Benchmarking

Quantitative reporting provides the ability to analyze fatigue risk profiles on many levels, including individual operators, shifts, operations, locations, and other key data. Identifying unacceptable risk profiles with objective data, for the first time allows, us to make proper adjustments and changes to policy including scheduling, training, monitoring, etc. The ability to identify unacceptable risk profiles improves the overall fatigue strategy—reducing risk and improving productivity. These risk profiles also enable KPIs and benchmarking to establish base lines for acceptable risk and allow performance to be measure.

lowering risk, and improving productivity.

OPTALERT’s technology offers the ability to objectively measure and record an operator’s level of alertness, and thus enables definitive rootcause analysis in post-incident investigations. The ability to determine definitively drowsiness as a contributing factor in an incident has been elusive for safety professionals to-date. Not anymore.
