Community Announcements Interfaith House closed Fair Week The Interfaith House in West Union will closed for the entire week of the Adams County Fair. Call (937) 544-7141 for any questions. MLSD Board meets July 13 The Manchester Local School District Board of Education will meet in regular session on Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Manchester High School.

ACOVSD Board will meet July 21 The Adams County Ohio Valley School District Board of Education will hold a board meeting on Thursday, July 21 at the Career and Technical Center beginning at 7 p.m.

Snider, Tolle named to Dean’s List

More than 3,400 students were named to the Spring 2016 Dean’s List at the University of Akron, two of them from West Union. To be eligible, recipients maintained a GPA of 3.500 3.999 and were enrolled in 12 or more credit hours. The two West Union graduates who earned Dean’s List honors were: Timothy Snider, majoring in Mechanical Engineering; Brooklyn Tolle, majoring in Psychology.

Peebles Foodbank giveaway is July 23 The Peebles Foodbank will hold a food giveaway at 8 a.m. on July 23 at the Church of Christ Outreach Center on Nixon Avenue. This is for Peebles residents only. USDA guidelines apply and ID is required.

Genealogical Society Picnic is July 30 Everyone is invited to the Adams County Genealogical Society’s annual reunion picnic on Saturday, July 30 at the Adams County Heritage Center. The Society will furnish sandwiches and drinks and guests may bring salads and desserts for the noon meal. A mystery guest will present a version of “Who do you think you are?” for the program.

DAV Chapter 71 meeting moved to July 30 The June 25 meeting of DAV Chapter 71 and DAVA Unit 71 was cancelled due to a conflict with the DAV State Convention. The next scheduled monthly meeting will be held on July 30.

Peebles Village Council meets Aug. 9 The Village Council of Peebles will hold its regularly scheduled meeting for August on Aug. 9 at 4 p.m.

Manchester River Days Committee planning meetings The Manchester River Days Committee is encouraging anybody interested in being part of the 2016 River Days celebration to attent the meetings at the Manchester Community Building at 6 p.m. on the

first and third Tuesdays of each month. Manchester will be celebrating its 225th birthday and this can be a River Days to remember. For more information, please contact andy member of the Manchester Village Council.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Support Group meeting each month An Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family and Caregiver Support Group will be meeting on the second Monday of each month from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Adams County Regional Medical Center. This program will provide an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn and ask questions, while receiving support from others in similar situations. Programs are free of charge but registration is requested by calling (937) 779-6990.

Winchester Happenings

Plans are in motion for the 2016 Caramel Festival which will be the weekend of August 26, 27 and 28. Our next meeting is July 21 at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall. Along with the Methodist Church, we will be hosting an antique quilt and toy display at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Quilts or toys can be dropped off at the church on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday from noon – 1 p.m. Keep Larry Askren and his family in your prayers. He was recently diagnosed with cancer and is now at home with his family under the care of hospice. Please keep Xavier Roberts, grandson of Greg Roberts, who is the pastor of the Methodist Church in your prayers for healing. Xavier underwent treatment for cancer but is now at Dayton Children’s Hospital not doing well. Brian Chandler had an unfortunate accident with

a tree limb that resulted in foot fractures. Please keep him in your prayers (also Rebecca and the boys). Bill Hall has been undergoing treatment for cancer. Keep him and Stella in your prayers as well. Vegetables from our Winchester Community Garden will be available on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 – 8 p.m. The beautiful garden is located across from the W3CU Compassion Ministry building. Mr. Roger Davis is looking ahead to another knee surgery. I will keep you posted on his progress. Winchester’s Past (Florence Bryson): Luman Kimberly was born in Hinsburg, Vermont in 1803. His parents were Adam and

Polly Kimberly. Luman was the first of the Kimberly family that came to this area. He had been apprenticed to a blacksmith but ran away and came to Kentucky. It was before 1829 as he was married to Mary Ann Calvert in Bracken, County that year. They moved to Ohio and in 1850 were in Union Township and he had a blacksmith shop in Ripley. They were the parents of six children, two girls and four boys. Luman died in 1860 and Mary Ann in 1876. They are buried in the Pisgah Ridge Cemetery. Their son Sidney D. was born in 1842 and married Deborah Heizer. He farmed but was also a blacksmith. They lived in Union Township but sometime around 1900 were in Eagle Twp. In 1910 they were living in Macon and his sister Mary Elizabeth was living with them. Steve L. Lucas

Steve Lynn Lucas age 52, of Franklin Ohio, formerly of West Union, passed away Tuesday July 6 at his residence. He was born Feb. 26, 1964 in Brown County, Ohio, the son of the late Janet (Lucas) Watts. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Minnie Mabel Lucas and Victor Junior Lucas; two uncles David and Junior Lucas; two aunts Patsy (Lucas) Brewer and Sue (Lucas) Moore; and mother-in-law Faye

Collins. He is survived by his two children, Bailee Lucas, age 11 and Kanaan Lucas age 8; one sister, Christie Hayslip of West Union; one brother, Brian and Dorthea Hayslip of Wilmington; one aunt, Judy (Lucas) Jenkins; step-dad Charles and Shirley Hayslip of Hillsboro; father-in-law, Lynn Collins "Old Man" and Special Friend / Mother of his children, Sabrina Lucas; and several cousins and nieces and nephews and one great nephew Jase Morgan. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m on Tuesday July 12, 2016 in the Clarence E. Bowman Chapel. Family will receive friends on hour prior the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Young Lusain Funeral Home and Crematory.

Al Roettele, Jr., 62 years of Peebles, passed away on Friday July 8, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Mariemont on Aug. 21, 1953, the son of the late Alfred and Marian (Krantz) Roettele, Sr. Besides his parents he was also preceded by one brother, Ed Roettele. Al served in the United States Marines and was in the H.O.G. Al is survived by his wife, Denise (Swayne) Roettele, whom were married on May 19, 1979; one son, Codey (Elisha) Roettele of Hillsboro; two daughters, Coleen (Brandon) Triplett of Ironton and Cara (Donovan

Penn) Roettele of McDermott; three grandchildren, Kaylin and Cole Triplett and Aubry Yochum; two brothers, three sisters, mother-in-law Shirley Swayne of Peebles and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. A Memorial Service will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday July 13, 2016 at the WallaceThompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jerry and Jodi Faulconer of Greenfield, Ohio wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lyndsey to Tony Williams, son of Elizabeth Jane Williams of Peebles. Lyndsey is a 2007 graduate of McClain High School and a 2012 graduate of Wright State University. She is presently employed by The Laurel's of Hillsboro as a Social Services Director.

Tony is a 2002 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and a 2006 graduate of Shawnee State University. He is currently employed by the Adams County/Ohio Valley Schools as a Teacher/Athletic director at North Adams High School. The couple will be married on Saturday August 6 at the Peebles United Methodist Church.

Craig and Jennifer Davis, Tina Thomas-Grooms, and Brian Keith Grooms invite all to join them at the wedding of their children, Emily Paige Davis and Taylor McKay Grooms. The wedding will take place on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m.

Royalaires coming to West Union The “Royalaires” gospel singers will be in concert on Sunday, July 24 at 6 p.m. at the West Union Christian Union Church. The Royalaires are a long-established Southern gospel group from Circleville. The Praise Trio will open for the Royalaires and sing during midservice break. A love offering will be collected. Madison Siders, 17-year old daughter of Slade and Donna Siders of Winchester is the 2016 Adams County Fair Beef Ambassador. Madison attends North Adams High School and is an active 4-H and FFA member. She is VicePresident of the Nitty Gritty 4-H club and Vice-President of the Junior Fair Board. She shows rabbits and feeder calves along with various

other non-livestock 4-H projects. Siders also works as a 4H camp counselor, a 4-H Tech Wizards mentor, a Junior Leader, and is part of the Small Animal Committee. At NAHS, Madison is on the softball team, a member of the Beta Club, the Envirothon Team, and the Academic Team. This fall, she will be attending Southern State Community College through the College Credit Plus Program.
