Overview: In fourth year as a starter...two-time South Carolina Amateur Champion..Clemson’s best player at the NCAA Regional as a freshman in Illinois....went to high school with Austin Langdale at Pendleton High, just 10 miles from Clemson.... Langdale and Young were born just two days apart in the same hospital....ranked No 135 by Golfstat and 145th by Golfweek... starter as a freshman who had injury plagued sophomore year…played in just six tournaments as a sophomore, but returned to form in the summer of 2015......qualified for the U.S. Amateur with rounds of 70-64 to win his sectional in 2015...shot a 13-under-par 59 in a practice round at Brookstone Meadows, a course near Clemson in July of 2015...grew up around the Clemson program, he played at Boscobel Country Club as a youth where Clemson team played and still plays many practice rounds…a product of local legend Harvey Brock…Young became just the fourth Clemson freshman to finish in the top 10 of an NCAA Regional in 2014, he joined Kyle Stanley, Gregg Jones and Richard Coughlan in that exclusive club...played in just four events in the fall of 2014 as he recovered from knee surgery…ranked number-five in the nation among Juniors by Golfweek in August of 2013, he was second among members of the class of 2013…ranked eighth in the nation in the Polo Rankings of August 14, 2013… won 2013 South Carolina Amateur with 272 score, 12-under-par…had bookend rounds of 66 in winning the title by a shot…qualified for the US Amateur, the only Clemson golfer to qualify for the 2013 prestigious event…had outstanding high school career at Pendleton High School in Pendleton, SC, he won the state championship as a junior and senior…won Junior Invitational AJGA event at Sage Valley in 2013…was named national Amateur of the Week after that victory...entering his second semester senior year has 263 birdies and four eagles…veteran of 31 tournaments and 89 rounds, more than any other active Tiger….has 12 rounds in the 60s and 22 rounds under par. Fall 2016: Third on the team in stroke average for the fall, but had an average under 72 with a 71.73…had a pair of rounds in the 60s and five under-par rounds to rank third in both categories…13 of his 15 rounds were at 75 or better and his score counted in 14 of the 15 rounds he played…did not have a top 10 but had four top 25 finishes to tie for first on the team in that category for the fall…started the season with a 19th place finish at the Carpet Classic with a one-under-par 215 score…had an opening round 68, his second best score of the fall…finished 22nd at the Jackrabbit with a 218 score and 21st at Nike Golf with a 214 score…finished the fall with a 12th place at Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii thanks to a 208 score, five-under-par…had season best 14 birdies in the 54 holes…had a final round 67 to tie his career best round….his third career 67, but his second at Ka’anapali…. that 208 was just two shots off his 54 hole best…Clemson’s best golfer at the Nike Collegiate at Colonial Country Club when he shot 214…second on the team in fewest putts per round for the fall with a 30.42 average…had strong 70.60 stroke average for the first round second best on the team behind Doc Redman’s 69.0…
Summer 2016: Won the South Carolina Amateur Championship for the second time...had final score of 11 under par 277 in winning by three shots in Georgetown, SC...had consistent rounds of 70-69-68-70...he also won in 2013 in Columbia... joins Clemson Head Coach Larry Penley, Lucas Glover and D.J. Trahan as multiple time winners of the South Carolina Amateur from Clemson...had outstanding summer, he was 30 under par for four tournaments...was -7 at the Dogwood Invitational and finished 23rd, tied for first before losing in playoff at Carolinas Amateur, he shot -8 272...then finished fourth at Palmetto Amateur with 276 score before finishing first at South Carolina Amateur...had 69.1 stroke average for 16 rounds in the summer, he shot 72 or better in 15 of the 16 rounds...shot in the 60s eight times... had summer low 64 in third round at Carolinas Amateur...had quite a comeback at Carolinas Amateur in that he shot 76 in first round, then finished 67-64-68 to tie for first...had rounds of 69-71-68-68 at Palmetto...had streak of 11 consecutive rounds under par to finish the summer. In 2015-16: First-team All-ACC on the course and in the classroom, he also made the All-Region team in 2015-16...fourth on the team in stroke average with a 73.39 figure, but capable of shooting low scores.....tied for second on the team in rounds in the 60s with seven...also had 10 rounds under par....had 10 rounds under par, but seven of the 10 were in the 60s....shot career best 67 twice, including this past fall at US Collegiate....Clemson’s best player final day of ACC Tournament with a 68, it led to an even par finish of 216, he finished 16th individually....had three top 10s, all were top sevens...finished fifth at Nike Collegiate in Oregon in the fall, seventh at Bandon Dunes and third at Clemson Invitational....so two of his three top 10s were in Oregon....Clemson’s second best player in the state of Oregon with a +9 total for nine rounds....joined a short list of Tigers to have three rounds in the 60s in the same tournament when he had career best 206 score at Nike Collegiate... has 98 birdies this year, fourth on the team....his score counted 26 of 33 rounds... the number-four Tiger in terms of scoring average, but his score was the best round of the day eight times...top Tiger in two tournaments. Summer 2015: Had very strong summer that included a victory at his US Amateur qualifier, a sixth-place at Carolina Amateur and qualifying for the US Amateur for the second time in his career…finished 44th at Palmetto Amateur to start the summer with a 296 total…finished 24th at Rice Planters on June 27th with a five-under-par 283…had four rounds at par or better, including third round 69… finished 20th at the Dogwood with 209 total, he had rounds of 68-69-72…won his US Amateur qualifier with 134 score, eight-under-par…shot a summer best 64 in the first round to take charge early…might have had his best performance at Carolinas Amateur July 9-12 when he finished sixth with 15 under par 273…had final round 65…finished 11th at South Carolina Amateur with 290 score…had 68 in the second round…shot 146 for two days at United States Amateur in Olympia Fields near Chicago…struggled in first round with 77 but had a strong 69 in the second round…that 69 was his ninth round in the 60s of the summer….shot a 59 at Brookstone Meadows, a local course, in a non-tournament. 2014-15: Missed first two tournaments of the fall as he recovered from late summer knee surgery…played in Dick’s Challenge and U.S. Collegiate and never broke 75, but played well last two events…shot a 69 to finish third at Hummingbird, helping Clemson to the championship…then had 67 to open the Ka’anapali Classic..… that tied his career low round as a Tiger and tied for the low round of the day… averaged 30.0 putts per round in the fall, tied for the best on the team....played in just two events in the spring, he shot 231 at Puerto Rico and 223 at Augusta...had
