Highlights • Clemson defeated North Carolina, Virginia and Duke in winning the 1996 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on March 1-3, 1996. The Lady Tigers defeated North Carolina in the quarterfinals 67-49. In the semifinals, Clemson defeated Virginia for the third time in 1995-96, 7567. In the championship game, Clemson defeated Duke 71-54. This is the first time in Clemson women’s basketball history that the Lady Tigers have won the ACC Championship. • Clemson finished the season with a 23-8 record overall. • The Lady Tigers advanced to postseason play for the ninth consecutive time. • Stephanie Ridgeway was named First-Team All-ACC. • Amy Geren was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. • Clemson won the Texas-Arlington Championship at Arlington, TX. • The Lady Tigers were ranked 14th in the final AP poll and 17th in the final USA Today rankings. • Head Coach Jim Davis won his 200th career game at the NCAA Division I level on February 3, with a 70-53 win over Florida State. • Davis also won his 175th game at Clemson with the 85-72 win over TexasArlington on December 19. • Laura Cottrell was named ACC Tournament MVP. • Stephanie Ridgeway and Laura Cottrell were both named to the ACC AllTournament Team. • Dory Kidd won the Robin Roberts WBCA Sports Communications Scholarship Award. • Head Coach Jim Davis was named to the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA) Hall of Fame.
