From the Director

Message from the Director EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

I recently read an article titled, “How parents can prepare their children to be Entrepreneurs and Bosses”. Two of the 8 ways identified were to help your children develop “self confidence” and “curiosity”. So how can parents accomplish this? Ultimately, it’s by teaching children effective preparation for whatever they’re doing, encouraging their opinions, exposing them to situations where they can ask questions, and giving them opportunities to make decisions. How can the library help parents in building of “self confidence” and “curiosity” in their children? We can introduce our patrons and their children to the many resources that we offer that put them, “In The Know”. We have the capability to increase the knowledge base of our citizens in so many ways. We offer: Knowledgeable staff, trained to help you find the information you need-- Just in Time or Right on Time. Downloadable magazines, eBooks, new music & more on your digital devices--whenever/wherever you want. Live and online tutoring, music mixing, robotics, and many other STEAM programs. Free Computer Training – from basic computer classes to Microsoft Office Classes (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more). Access to resources that identify jobs in the area and match your skills to available jobs. Mind expansion opportunities for kids, by giving them the chance to get up close and personal with reptile, birds of prey and even using our Zoo pass to visit Zoo Atlanta. Adult programs that range from Starting a Business to Developing Literacy Skills. Foreign language software that can be accessed from the comfort of your own home. Arts and Crafts for all ages including making bath salts and sugar scrubs as special gifts. Movie, Jazz Concerts, Author Events and Community Forums at your neighborhood branch. Digital devices training and the chance to try digital devices before you buy them. Year-round entertainment for kids ranging from attending magic shows, juggling acts, puppetry shows and much more. A Family Place environment experience, the opportunity to learn parenting skills, and information about our B-4 program. Your library is the center of your community, and the core of your Knowledge Base. Help your children develop “self confidence” and curiosity by encouraging them to learn, prepare, and actively make decisions based on information and knowledge.

A Letter from Our Community To Director R. Lett and the other Clayton Library leaders, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! I deeply appreciate the efficiency and accessibility of our library system in Clayton! I’ve been a lifelong lover and user of the library. I’ve been a cardholder at many other branches around the state. I moved back to Clayton and recently visited the Headquarters Branch and got the shock of my life...that at least one library in this state offers great hours! Four days a week, open late? Why I thought I’d died and gone to library heaven! :-) And it’s clean, still mostly quiet like a library should be, and efficiently run, as I suspect the other branches are too. So just know that your work and service aren’t going unnoticed. Keep up the good work, and keep our libraries open. I appreciate ALL of you as the library will forever be -- in my eyes -- one of the most valuable assets to our communities. Gracias! Danke! Merci! Ose! THANK YOU! - Carol Folsom-Scott
