Director’s Note: I fell in love with this play the first time I read it. The essence of this story is the way history writes women who stand out and speak up as crazy, violent and heretical, instead of smart, forward thinking and powerful. These are historical characters whose struggle for equal rights, and to be heard are sadly still a struggle today. When I was a theatre professor at L.A. Valley College we were hard pressed to do a play with only four characters because it didn’t give enough students the opportunity to be on stage. I was thrilled when I presented this play to Leonard Madrid and he gave it a thumbs up.
