Race Morning

8

MTB

Before racing your bike, make sure you have checked the following things:

● Your bike is technically in order, e.g: your brakes are working and there are no open ends on your handle bars.

● Your number plate is affixed to your handlebars and is clearly visible.

Run

● On race morning, make sure you have your run bib number as it must be on during the run portion of the event

Bike Course

The bike loop lap is just shy of 8 miles with approximately 650 feet of elevation gain per lap Think of each loop in two sections: in venue and the Fox performance trail.

In Venue: A combination of paved and jeep roads inside the Road Atlanta Speedway. This section is great for making passes, eating/ drinking and finding your rhythm between laps

Fox Performance Trail: Built by students and coaches from local GCA teams and master trail builder Ethan Quell of All Out Trail Designs this course is fast and fun. Only 265 feet of elevation, this trail was built to IMBA/SORBA standards so even a 6th grader could race it And they did for the first time in 2017 in the GCA RACE#1. The trail features a mix of single track and machine built flow that riders describe as “butter”. Be on the lookout for a section called “the Bowl”. The kids favorite part of the course has the riders drop down into the bowl and shoot around the outside edge of it before rocketing out to continue their ride

9

Run Course- Half Marathon

Get ready for some challenging terrain over the course of this single lap 13.1 mile race course. You’ll have a couple miles to jockey for position on the open road inside the Road Atlanta venue but once you hit those trails expect single track for the next 8 miles until you return to the venue. You’ll get to run on all three sets of trails maintained by Prima Tappa Athletic Club. Their unique trail description are below:

Fox Performance Trail: Built by students and coaches from local GCA teams and master trail builder Ethan Quell of All Out Trail Designs this course is fast and fun. Only 265 feet of elevation, this trail was built to IMBA/SORBA standards so even a 6th grader could race it. And they did for the first time in 2017 in the GCA RACE#1 The trail features a mix of single track and machine built flow that riders describe as “butter” If you get to ride this trail be on the lookout for a section called “the Bowl” The kids favorite part of the course has the riders drop down into the bowl and shoot around the outside edge of it before rocketing out to continue their ride.

Raceface Turbine Trail: Built by All Out Trail Designs and funded by an anonymous donor, this course is meant to be a progression from the original trail. Its built more like traditional area trails where the roots haven’t been cut out and the natural landscape with all its curves and edges are kept in. The trail has one

10

tough climb immediately after the fun of Brooks Run, a machine built downhill section that can be taken fast (stay left) or fun (slow down and stay right). The trail is not technical, just tougher than Performance.

Fox Factory Trail: In keeping with our progressive system we took the difficult terrain in this section and created a monster The Factory trail begins with a climb Not a steep climb, but if you’re racing it will hurt The payoff is some of the sweetest downhill flow in North Georgia You can really catch some air if your ability can handle it. After that it’s a hodge podge of XC variables that may make you happy… or sad depending on how in shape you are Caution this trail is not for the weak

11

Run Course- 5K

You might think this course is flat because you’re running around a race track, think again. With 157 feet of elevation in just three miles be prepared for some steep hills!

Aid Stations

Bike Course

On the 3hr, 6hr and 6hr Relays there will be ONE aid station/bottle fill station. This will be located at the start/finish line so athletes will have one chance per lap to receive aid. You are welcome to have a friend/ family member/ coach in this area personally hand you your own nutrition in this area. The on course nutrition will include:

● Water

● Gatorade Endurance

● Whole Bananas

● Energy gels

12

Run Course Half Marathon

On the run course you will find 4 aid stations approximately every 2 5 miles The on course nutrition will include:

● Water

● Gatorade Endurance

● Whole Bananas

● Energy gels

Run Course 5K

There will be one aid station approximately halfway through the course. The aid station will be serving water.

Trash Zone

Please note that littering along the course is forbidden. You are allowed to throw away your trash only in the designated areas 50 meters before and after each aid station. If you are spotted littering

elsewhere including tossing cups, drink bottles, or energy gel/bar wrappers you risk a penalty. This rule is enforced on both the bike and the run races.
