Membership Information

The legacy of Mary Frances Clarke and the founding Sisters is alive at Clarke University through the vibrancy of our campus community and longstanding traditions.

The Founders’ Society is an extension of Clarke’s BVM heritage and membership is reserved for alumni, parents, and friends contributing $1,000 or more to Clarke annually.

Clarke graduates who have completed their studies within the past five years are recognized as Founders’ Society members for gifts of $250 or more annually. Similarly, graduates within six to ten years are recognized for gifts of $500 or more annually.

Your annual leadership gift allows students to have a well-rounded experience both inside and outside of the classroom by supporting scholarships, premier academic programs, and enrichment activities. For more information please visit clarke.edu/founderssociety

Mary Frances Clarke

MEDALLION

After forming a congregation of religious women, Mary Frances Clarke and the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary journeyed into pioneer territory in 1843. With a belief in changing hearts and minds, Clarke University was born.

Class Tree

MEDALLION

One of Clarke’s most meaningful traditions, the class tree-planting and subsequent tree-naming ceremony are practices that have taken place on Clarke’s campus for more than a century.

Twin Spires

MEDALLION

This medallion depicts the original Sacred Heart Chapel’s most prominent features, the twin spires. These monumental pieces of Clarke’s history were constructed at the beginning of the 20th century.

Core Values

MEDALLION

Originally created by Carmelle Zserdin, BVM ’61, for an installation in the main entrance of the Marie Miske Center for Science Inquiry, this symbol commemorates the continued BVM spirit, tradition, and legacy at Clarke.

Fourth medallion in collection

MEDALLION

As a leader and pioneer in her field, Sister Mary Kenneth Keller, BVM, made her mark on Clarke by establishing one of the country’s earliest, small-college computer science departments in 1965.

Wahlert Atrium Computer Pioneer

MEDALLION

After the Clarke fire of 1984, the R.C. and Celeste Wahlert Atrium was built in the center of campus and restored connectivity for the Clarke community

Christmas Traditions

Christmas at Clarke is a magical time. We are proud to honor our many longtime holiday traditions, which allow us to gather together, give thanks, and celebrate the season.

175th Anniversary

In recognition of Clarke’s 175th anniversary, we honor Mother Mary Frances Clarke’s directive to keep our school progressive with the times in which we live. As Clarke continues to evolve, we remain committed to challenging and supporting our students, who are the heart of our institution.

Kehl Center

MEDALLION

Completed in 1994, the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center is Clarke’s on-campus recreation and sports complex. It also serves as the home for Clarke’s signature events such as Convocation, Commencement, and many Gallagher Arts at Clarke functions.

This medallion recognizes how Clarke University draws strength from its students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends, and supporters around the world. Together, we bring the values of education, charity, justice, and freedom to life.

Therese Mackin, BVM '50

Sister Therese faithfully served the Clarke community for over 50 years, and her impact lives on through the students and colleagues she worked with. This medallion as well as the Mackin Office of Institutional Advancement will forever serve as symbols of Therese’s dedication to Clarke University.

Mary Benedict Hall

Mary Benedict Hall has housed undergraduate students since opening in 1965. Originally named West Hall, it features a variety of gathering spaces including common rooms on each floor, a fifth-floor sundeck, and a large gathering room in the lower level called the Lion’s Den.

Catherine Dunn, BVM, Ph.D.

MEDALLION

Sister Catherine Dunn's 50-year dedication to Clarke University and her 75 years as a BVM exemplify a lifetime of commitment to education, faith, and service. Beloved for her warmth and enduring contributions, Sister Catherine remains a cherished figure in our community.

Mary Frances Hall

Mary Frances Hall, named after Clarke University's founder, has been a campus icon for 100 years. Built in 1924 by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, its unique design features high ceilings, varied room sizes, and hardwood floors. This residence hall embodies Wright's innovative spirit, showcasing Clarke University's rich history and lasting impact.
