SAUVIGNON BLANC WITH PORTUGUESE ACCENT Sauvignon Blanc grape variety, well known all over the world and increasingly loved not only by those who love to drink the wines born from it but also by the producers and winemakers who work with it and that enhance its potential to produce a lot of different profile wines according to the terroir where the vineyard is located, also began to be a serious bet in our Country. Taking a look at a recent past, If a few years ago there were few examples of 100% Sauvignon Blanc wines with produced in Portugal and many of those that existed were almost like a "solitary mad project" by the producer or oenologist, nowadays it seems that they are here to stay, they are more and more, better worked and began to appear some very serious cases of quality. Curious as this grape variety, whose birthplace are the French vineyards of Bordeaux and shortly afterwards, established further north, in the Loire Valley, where it showed its true potential and quickly reaches the distant lands of New Zealand and Chile where, with a completely different terroir, adapts and produces differentiated and high-quality wines with enormous adherence from the wine consumer worldwide. Its exotic aromas, full of tropical fruit, citrus and vegetable, which change in intensity depending on the type of soil, sun exposure, the time of harvest and other diverse factors, combined with an immense freshness, well-measured acidity and elegant profile shown to be the factors that have led to today assumption that Sauvignon Blanc is one of the Queens of the Breeds at a global level. Portuguese vineyards reveal a new grape variety growing from year to year. More and more Sauvignon Blanc is being planted and, consequently, more and more bottles are produced from this grape variety and in single varieties. Regions that contribute the most to this scenario are Alentejo, Tejo and Lisbon but it’s easy to find it in Douro, Bairrada or Dão as well. We have a small territory when compared to regions like the Loire Valley, New Zealand or Chile, but we have a diversity of terroirs that are a real challenge with a variety like this. The challenge had to be accepted.
This year, in the middle of the pandemic state, I realized that, a little without paying to much attention to it, I started to taste and drink a lot of Sauvignon Blanc wines, coming from different Portuguese wine regions, whit different styles and profiles, where the region from which they came from or the hand of most assertive or rebel winemaker took a big part in the making of the wine and I easily came to the conclusion that, although we still need to walk a little further to reach internationally named wines, we already have a wide range of high quality options that should be followed very closely in the coming years. Portuguese Sauvignon Blanc must also be known.

Intense citrus colour, slightly greenish, youthful, clear and bright. Aromatically reveals itself elegant, with notes of ripe tropical fruit well measured, side by side, in the correct proportion, with more vegetable notes, tomato branch, green asparagus and some cut grass, saline and some broken silex have been part of the equation since the beginning of the tasting . Mouth with structure and volume, harmony between some unctuousness and acidity, some tension, tropical fruit and the more vegetal side continuing to show itself, always in balance and elegance register. Long and persistent finish.
Defined and intense citrus colour, light greenish, clear and bright. In the nose it reveals exuberant aromas, fine vegetable cut, asparagus, some tomato leaf, all well measured, accompanied by notes of white flower and ripe and fresh tropical fruit, elegant and without bothering. Harmonious mouth, volume and width, very well balanced, sharp acidity, in addition to the quality juicy and fresh fruit with a long finish and full of finesse.

Citrus yellow colour, more open, clear and shiny in appearance. Intense aroma, with more horticultural notes, tomato branch, green pepper, cucumber, asparagus, fresh and captivating. Mouth with good presence, some fat, good texture, with acidity in the spot, acidic citrus fruit, with a long and persistent finish.

Nose with ripe tropical fruit, passion fruit, shows very well connected with the more vegetable notes of asparagus, tomato leaf, very elegant, stony, fresh. Very expressive mouth, show the grape variety, beautiful body, light creaminess, crunchy acidity, fresh, tasty fruit, balanced set, long and elegant finish.

Citrus yellow colour, light greenish, clean and shiny appearance. On the nose, delicate notes of green pepper, asparagus, citrus fruit and some ripe tropical fruit, mineral notes and fresh profile. Mouth with intensity, nerve and crispy acidity with fresh, juicy fruit and with a most marked mineral profile. Long aftertaste with a lot of elegance.

The nose shows tropical fruit and well combined citrus, passion fruit, a lot of grapefruit, some tangerine and a more exuberant lime, also showing a sharp mineral side. Mouth with presence, some creaminess, with sharp, sharp acidity, drying the palate, showing a juicy citrus fruit, slight aftertaste almost like a spicy, long and powerful ending.

Citrus yellow colour, slight dry straw hue, faint greenish, clear and shiny appearance. Aromatic, intense, notes of tropical fruit such as passion fruit, lime and some pineapple are highlighted, well connected with a touch of tomato and pepper, salty and mineral foliage. Mouth with lively, enveloping acidity, with citrus fruit showing to be very well connected with another side more vegetable, lime, asparagus, green pepper, beautiful set, slight volume and greasiness, caresses and wraps, with long, persistent and fresh finish.

Mouth remains in the same register, harmonious and fresh, good volume and even some greasiness, controlling acidity, maintaining its line throughout the tasting, fresh fruit well placed, light toasted, incorporated, giving it width and long end.

Mouth with good texture, some creaminess, acidity well measured, drying the palate, good fruit, juicy, elegant with a long finish.

Nose showing essentially the ripe tropical fruit, with a citrus touch, grapefruit and herbaceous touch in the background, discreet but still presence. In the mouth it is a wine with good texture, balanced, acidity in harmony with the whole, tasty, fresh tropical fruit and long aftertaste.

Citrus yellow colour, open, clear and bright. In the nose relief for ripe tropical fruit, well measured and without exaggeration, fresh, well connected with the vegetable notes in background, some green asparagus, tomato leaf and green pepper, harmonious and fresh. It presents with lightness in mouth, some greasiness and a feeling of volume, balanced acidity, dry enough, citrus fruit on the spot, with some vegetable and citrus notes at the end of the mouth. With good final length it is a good option for grilled fish and cooked seafood dishes.
