We are on the island of St. Croix Croix. An island with plenty of vegetation, protected areas and floodplains. There are amazing views and nature which are the high points of this island.

Therefore, the decision to build a green building, ecological construction. A high-rise building will be the best way to achieve. Concerning ecology, we need to study the natural agents to taking advantage of them as much as possible. This proposal uses them fully. A green gap goes through the entire building letting in natural light, providing cross ventilation and helping in the harvesting rainwater.

TRYING TO GET

THE ECOLOGY

This building could mean establishing a vertical city. As a high-rise building, it is less dense so facilities will be shorter and more concentrated and therefore less damaging to the environment. The facilities in this case are very important because of their program, that´s why they are grouped and thus we can get lowering costs and be less damaging in the field. The less contact with the ground, more ecological it will be so that it implies less damage to the environment. The ground is very important in this area, we must respect it. The higher is a buil building, the more natural agents we can take advanta advantage of of.

WELLNESS HIGH-RISE

Why a HIGH-RISE building with this PROGRAM and this LOCATION requested? This project will become an em emblematic tower and a key point for the city. It can be seen from any point of the island. As a tower it allows 360ยบ views views, which is an important topic because of the special location. It acts as a viewpoint from which we can observe the amazing landscape of the island, it offers unique views. The views make a workspace be more comfortable. Once I read an article about the city and the countryside that told the story of a man recovered from his illness thanks to landscape views. It is a building dedicated to work so the landscape views can help the welfare of the people who frequent it.

The gap allows the rain get inside the building and be collected the water in a tank.

The sun get inside from south to north, from up to down.

Deciduous vegetation allows the light get inside in winter and creates a microclimate. These are watered by the abundant rainfall.

The gap + free floor + double-facade allow good crossed ventilation.

Floors´ shapes favor the natural agents. They use natural light as much as possible leaving the longest facade to the south and the shortest one to the north. The elevators are located at east and west thus they make a more indirect light. The green gap which goes through the building rotates from up to down, letting in natural light to the north façade because it is the most disadvantaged one.

A high-rise building. A High-rise building camouflaged with the environment.

A CLOSER VIEW OF THE BUILDING

A double glass facade allows crossed ventilation. This double faรงade is also used to get the STAIRCASE inside the building. + PRIVACY

The building has four ELEVATORS ELEVATORS. The number of lifts per level is different depending on the grade of privacy and utility.

A system of SLATS which rotate depending on the amount of light received. These slats consist of two layers, a glass exterior one and a metallic interior one. The facades are all covered on by glass, this reflective material that makes the tower mimics with the environment. Depending on the use and guidance, facades shall consist of fixed glass or a slats system.

A STRUCTURE will consist in concrete slabs. Each slab acquired a different size depending on the use of each floor. Steel structure will be on the exterior facade and in the hole that goes through the building. This structure allows to the vines get inside the gap. The steel structure from the exterior facade is anchored to the slabs through another steel structure horizontally. Small beams will be of 1.8 m in length. This structure allows the building containing a double skin and a free public square floor 0, thus, facilitates the natural ventilation. An edge staircase around the building and it adapts to the floors and walls.
