Report

Fifteen years ago, City Teaching Alliance was launched with the belief that preparing highly skilled teachers would improve the well-being of youth. Now, with your support, we have positively impacted the lives of more than 400,000 students. I could not be more grateful to the many partners who have contributed to our mission and helped to shape the future of education!

AGE FROM ARD CHAIR

To Our Partners:

We are thrilled to share the City Teaching Alliance 2024 Annual Report. This year has been one of remarkable growth and impact, and we are eager to reflect on our accomplishments and share our vision for the future.

In July 2024, City Teaching Alliance welcomed Dr. Rahesha Amon as our new CEO to guide our work in ensuring every student in the United States is taught by committed, well-prepare educators. Dr. Amon is a career educator with over 25 years in New York City Public Schools. She has held roles at the school, district, central office, and state leadership levels, and her deep experience, her leadership, and her advocacy for students have prepared her to lead City Teaching Alliance into a new phase of growth.

We also launched our new name and brand, entering a new era as an organization. This bold learning-driven pivot, among many others, led us to our most successful cohort numbers since 2021, as we welcomed more than 200 new teachers across the Baltimore, DC, Dallas, and Philadelphia regions.

With children at the center of our work, we must continue to evolve and respond to the needs of teachers and our communities. We look forward to your ongoing partnership and collaboration. It matters, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Partnership,

R FROM IEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

To Our City Teaching Alliance Community:

We are celebrating a significant milestone at City Teaching Alliance: 15 years as a nonprofit! Since receiving a start-up grant from the NewSchools Venture Fund in 2009, we have welcomed over 2,500 aspiring educators and expanded into nearly 500 schools, impacting the lives of over 400,000 students. These accomplishments were made possible through the dedication of our board members, partners, colleagues at American University, and, most importantly, our remarkable faculty, staff, and supporters.

As we celebrate this journey, we remain focused on the road ahead. There is still much work to be done to ensure a brighter future for children and our communities.

This year, we are centering our efforts on the following strategic priorities:

Define, Measure, and Improve Impact: establishing clear metrics to measure our progress and improve outcomes for the students and educators we serve. Develop a Sustainable Business: ensuring our financial health and operational efficiency to sustain and grow our impact.

Empower and Develop People: investing in the development of our staff, educators, and the next generation of leaders in education.

Thank you for your commitment to this work, for the network and legacy you have helped build, and for your continued partnership as we co-create the future of City Teaching Alliance.

I am excited about the work ahead, and I look forward to continuing our journey together to impact the lives of children for many more years to come.

A lot of students tell me, ‘I never understood math before. This is my first year ever understanding it.’ I like being able to see the light bulbs click. Teaching is something that

definitely gives me a different type of joy. All I want to do is teach kids and make an impact.

I wanted to give back, and education was the best way to do that in terms of making a sustainable difference over a long period of time. It felt like I could give back while also having sustainable income. I’m able to live comfortably and create positive change. Education is the best of both worlds.
