Public Art
Sanford has a vibrant and thriving Public Art Program that showcases our city’s history while also engaging newcomers and youth.
One new feature for Fiscal Year 2017-18 was adding the first three dimensional mural in the state of North Carolina. The mural honors the Fairview Dairy, which was founded in 1927 by the Yarborough family. The mural depicts a dairy scene and the cow heads are 3D.

The Appearance Commission also chartered a new arts initiative with the local high
schools to enable art students to spruce up fire hydrants in the downtown Sanford business district.
The student artists submitted their designs to a panel of judges comprised of Appearance Commission members. The Commission selected five designs to start the program and paid for all supplies.
