Kendo – Introduction to Japanese Fencing

Ages: 10+

Instructor: Robert Stroud

Kendo is a coed sport based on martial arts traditions requiring both mental and physical discipline. The beginning class focus is on learning basic footwork and sword handling, as well as manners and proper etiquette in preparation for the advanced class. Beginning students should wear loose fitting clothes. An additional fee of $25 for the bamboo shinai (practice sword) is due the first night of class, payable to ‘Idaho Kendo Club’.

Art Week Historic Walking Tour of Downtown Meridian

Ages: 12+

Instructor: Barbara Bauer

Location: Meridian City Hall Front Steps

Meridian’s rich history is told through its historic buildings and architecture. Take a stroll through nearby downtown neighborhoods on a 60 minute guided walking tour with historian Barbara Perry Bauer to discover their architecture and history. Bring your walking shoes and prepare for the weather.

Digital Photography 101

Ages: Ages: 16 & Older

Location: Meridian Community Center

Digital Photography 101 is intended for owners of DSLR and advanced point and shoot cameras. This class will cover shutter speed settings, lens-opening settings, ISO, shooting modes and basic camera operations with the goal of helping camera owners gain a better understanding of how to use their photography gear. Other covered material includes software, camera accessories, composition and shooting situations. Students under 16 need to be accompanied by a paid adult.

Meridian’s Solid Waste Advisory Commission encourages youth and adult residents to demonstrate their creativity with repurposed/reclaimed/recycled materials by transforming them into art.

Line Dancing - Beginner

Ages: Teen, Adult & Senior

Just starting out? This is the class for you. Line dances are patterns of steps repeated throughout the song. Patterns in this Beginner class are pretty easy to memorize. Randy can tailor the class to your needs, so be sure to let him know if he should slow it down or speed it up. Randy specializes in helping people learn how to line dance effectively regardless of the level of experience or skill. Come try out some line dancing and see how quickly you will be kicking up your heels! Children 12 and under are encouraged to attend with parent free of charge.
