Climate Action Strategy: Environmental Resilience
The City Corporation’s Environmental Resilience Team is delivering a 5-year ‘Cool Streets and Greening Programme’ to ensure that the City’s streets and open spaces are adapted to the impacts of climate change.
This is part of our Climate Action Strategy and supports the City’s Biodiversity Action Plan 2021- 2026. Through this, we will look after the City’s biodiversity and aims to create resilient habitats to support urban wildlife and increase ecological resilience.
What can you do to support?
Submit wildlife records (pictures) and take part in community science projects
There are several ways to support local and national efforts, from submitting one-off records (e.g. pictures or observations) through platforms such as iNaturalist and iRecord, to taking part in national surveys like the Big Butterfly Count. This helps report on biodiversity and monitor the impacts of climate change.
Plant resilient species that can support wildlife.
The City Corporation is developing a Climate Resilient Planting Catalogue to promote sustainable practices and support urban nature recovery. The Catalogue will encourage, hardy, shade giving, drought and heat tolerant species, and those that have rich nectar and pollen resources.
