Arts & History KUMIHIMO BRAID-MAKING WORKSHOP

Challenge Level 1-5 “Gather your threads” with the Japanese art of Kumihimo, a braid-making technique used to weave decorative cords. This timeless technique is done on a a small and versatile braiding stool called a Maru Dai. Kumihimo braids can be used to create striking jewelry or embellish clothing and household wares. This is a fun, portable and meditative practice useful for all weavers. All materials provided. INTRO TO BOUND WEAVE

Challenge Level 3-4 Put your best foot forward and learn how to design your own woven rugs. Keep building your weaving skills and explore bound weaves. Bound weave is a general term for a group of weft-faced weaves used for rugs or wall hangings. We will weave samples based on plain weaves and twills, including Krokbragd. PLY SPLIT BRAIDING

POINT TWILL PATTERNS

Challenge Level 3-4 Let’s explore point twills and the wide variety of patterns they make. We’ll weave twill gamps (samplers) in a round-robin format, using different threadings and then “tromp as writ” to see the results. Your gamps will make a great source for future inspirations!
