David Allen Elected to Land Bank Leadership David Allen, Community Development Director, City of Jonesboro, was recently elected Secretary of the Clayton County Land Bank Board. The Clayton County Land Bank Authority is a statutory tool, under the 2014 Land Bank Act, for Clayton County, partnering with its cities to return tax delinquent dilapidated, and abandoned properties to productive use. The Clayton County Land Bank Authority processes applications from interested governmental agencies, businesses and individuals, and conveys the desired properties for public use, or to be reintroduced into the revenue-producing tax rolls. Council Notes

Approved: -Map Amendment to the Official Zoning Map for rezoning of 0.79 acres from Clayton County’s “General Business” to Jonesboro’s “Highway Commercial,” and to annex 0.79 acres into the corporate city limits of Jonesboro.

-Conditional Use Permit for a proposed retail establishment selling distilled spirits by the package (liquor store) for property located on Hwy. 138.

-Amendments to the Jonesboro Police Department Standard Operating Procedures, Chapter 28, Promotions.

-City Zoning Map update and re-adoption.

-Purchase of 150-95 Gallon garbage receptacles: $9,311.50 -Budget Amendments: City Garden & Police Recruitment.

Tabled: -Text Amendment to the City Code of Ordinances with the addition of Section 86-119 “City Center Mixed-Use District” to Chapter 86 Zoning.

Jarron McCray has been a General Laborer in Public Works since November 2018. He was born in Quincy, Florida. He keeps the City looking beautiful by cutting grass, operating the chipper, and many other tasks.

Jarron enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time. He is married and has one son. We appreciate your service!

Officer Jamel Stiggers is a native Atlantan and began working for the City in August 2019. Officer Stiggers protects and serves the citizens and informs the community of state laws & city ordinances. He enjoys roller skating and watching new and old movies. He is married with two children, a boy and a girl. Officer Stiggers says: “I am living my lifelong childhood dream working as a police officer in the City in which I attended school.” Thank you, Jamel Stiggers !

GROUND BREAKING HELD FOR JONESBORO CITY CENTER On March 31, at 12:00 pm, the official ground breaking ceremony was held for the Jonesboro City Center on Smith Street.. Present were many stakeholders as well as the Jonesboro City Council and City employees. Members of the Hogan Construction Group, designated builders of the project were on hand. The City Center, a 33,000 sq. ft. building will house both City Hall, including Community Development and Code Enforcement and the Police Department, Probation Services and City Court. The Art Deco style structure will also feature a large community room for events. An open atrium will welcome guests to the building. The City Center will have large windows and a courtyard facing Lee Street Park. Completion of the project is estimated to be late 2021.
