Our City Restaurants at College Green and South Bristol Skills Academy give our catering and hospitality students the opportunity to learn their craft in an industry-standard environment, fully equipped with everything you will find in the workplace.

Catering and Hospitality Certificate Level 1

Awarded by Pearson/Edexcel South Bristol Skills Academy One year, full-time

This course will introduce you to the catering and hospitality sector, and give you the knowledge and skills to progress to a subject-specific Level 1 or Level 2 course. As well as studying catering and hospitality topics, you will complete a Level 1 BTEC Introductory Vocational Studies qualification and develop your employability skills.

Introduction to Professional Cookery Diploma Level 1

Awarded by City & Guilds South Bristol Skills Academy One year, full-time

This course is an entry-level introduction to working in professional catering. You will gain an overview of working in the hospitality industry, food and drink service and practical cooking skills, as well as studying English and Maths at an appropriate level for you and learning employability skills.

Food Preparation and Service Technical Certificate Level 2

This course teaches students the essential skills for a career in the food and beverages industry. You will learn how the hospitality sector works and the different types of establishments and roles within it, as well as how to prepare and serve a range of savoury and sweet products and how to work safely with excellent levels of customer care.

General Food and Beverage Service Certificate Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds College Green Centre One year, full-time

This course is for students who are interested in working front of house in the hospitality sector. You will learn the range of skills needed in roles like bartender and barista, as well as honing your customer service skills, learning more about wines, beers and spirits and planning layouts for a variety of events. You will also have the chance to gain experience at major events in Bristol.

Professional Cookery Technical Certificate Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds College Green Centre One year, full-time

This course is a progression option for students who have completed Professional Cookery Level 1 or Food Preparation and Service Technical Certificate Level 2, and want to pursue a career as a professional chef. You will learn how professional kitchens work and many of the techniques used in professional cookery.

Professional Cookery Technical Diploma Level 3

Awarded by City & Guilds College Green Centre One year, full-time

This course is for students who have completed Professional Cookery Level 2 and are already working at least 30 hours a week in professional cookery. It’s designed to give you the skills needed to progress to a higher-level role in cookery or work in more prestigious establishments, covering advanced technical skills and professional knowledge.

Production Chef Apprenticeship Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds Offsite 14 months, full-time

This course is for students who have secured employment or are already working in professional cookery, and want to progress on a work-based route. You will work with your employer and your College trainer to complete on- and off-the-job training and gain your apprenticeship certificate.

Commis Chef Apprenticeship Level 2

Awarded by City & Guilds South Bristol Skills Academy Two years, full-time

This course is for students who aspire to a career in a fine dining setting, and who are already employed at a fine dining restaurant for a minimum of 30 hours per week. You will learn the knowledge and skills required to become a commis chef, and demonstrate these at your endpoint assessment.
