Blue cart tip
Wondering if you can recycle plastic film? Do the stretch test! If it stretches it can be recycled (like plastic wrap and plastic bags). If it’s crinkly like a chip bag and doesn’t stretch, it’s not recyclable.
Changes to cup disposal

We’re making changes to where we place disposable cups. Waxed lined coffee/drink cups should no longer go in the green cart with your organics as our processor is finding the wax does not break down during the recycling process and compromises the final product. Waxed cups should be placed in the garbage. Unwaxed cups can be recycled in your blue cart.

Not sure if it’s waxed or unwaxed? Do the scratch test! Scratch your fingernail along the inside of the cup – if it is waxed, you will see a layer of wax under your fingernail.
Collection and placement

Place your blue cart at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Leave a minimum of 1 metre clearance around the entire cart to ensure trucks are able to access it.

Carts cannot be placed at the curb between two vehicles as the truck arms cannot reach. Place your cart out past any parked vehicles. The recycling collection trucks are automated and equipped to pick up only carts and not excess recycling around it. If you have excess recycling, please take it to the Eastside Recycle Depot or store it until the next collection day.
