Taking care of quilts and more THERMA Quilts is a locally owned and family-run business that specialises in making and servicing quilts, eiderdowns, pillows and cushions and anything made from feather and down. The company’s unique cleaning process, which involves the feather and down being cleaned separately from the product casing in a specialised steamer and washing machine, helps the feather and down regain its loft and thermal resistance. “Our eco-friendly detergents mean that there are no harsh chemical residues on products,” says owner Jennifer Kusa. “Using our cleaning process, we can clean quilts, sleeping bags, down jackets and more when they are in need of rejuvenation or before they are stored after winter.” Jennifer says the servicing of feather and down products is essential for keeping them in optimal condition for comfort. “With time and usage, body proteins and lipids (natural oils and perspiration) are absorbed on to quilt casings and into the feather and
down inside,” she says. “Over time this build-up dampens the down, which causes it to lose its thermal resistance. “However, regular servicing of your quilts would ensure that your down is fresh, fluffy and keeps you nice and warm during winter. “In addition, we can repair, recover and add extra down to existing quilts, sleeping bags, pillows and cushions.” Therma Quilts also services silk, polyester, cotton and wool quilt underlays with eco-friendly detergents that have been modified and specifically formulated to clean each of these products. Therma Quilts, Unit 9, 10-12 Kemble Court, Mitchell. Open 9am-4pm, Monday to Friday. Call 6241 6859 or visit thermaquilts.com.au
Virginia likes to get it all sorted WELLSORTED Professional Organiser can help people declutter and organise their home or businesses to help them live the lives they want to live, says Virginia Wells, of WellSorted. “When working with me, we work on long-term change,” she says. “We touch every item in the house. If we get to an item that a person ‘ums’ and ‘ahs’ about and there’s no real reason to keep it, I give them a bunch of things to think about to determine whether it stays or goes. “We really get deep into the emotional junk of it all, no stone is left unturned and our aim is to make some positive change.” Virginia and fellow professional organiser Alison can help people declutter and reorganise their homes – from one cupboard to the entire house. They can also assist in diary and time management to keep a household running smoothly, help to downsize and prepare to move house and filing and paperwork. For businesses they can help with general office organisation and decluttering, filing and paperwork management, creating and streamlining business processes and systems and getting on top of a “to do” list. “From the first point of contact we want to make people feel comfortable about where they are in life – their belongings gives them a good indication of that,” she says. “We’re not there to make them feel ashamed or embarrassed. We
want them to feel confident and motivated and ultimately be able to get through their ‘stuff’ on their own.” She says any time of the year is the perfect time to get started, however spring is ideal to help you uncover all the summer leisure gear you’ve had stored away in the garage or cupboard. “A lot of people leave organising the home before the festive season to the last minute,” she says. “But now is a good time to look at it and give themselves the time to clean out that spare room for visitors and be less stressed.” WellSorted Professional Organiser.
