He says that due to the court system’s limited resources and judge time, it can take up to 18 months before the courts can deal with a matter. Geoff says that while the delay to get a matter in front of a judge can be inconvenient, it can also be an opportunity to bring the parties together to deal with the matter more quickly, through roundtable discussions and mediation. “We emphasise the importance of parties dealing with the problem and inventing their own solutions,” he says. “Decisions can be made based on your unique needs and situation that judges may not necessarily take into account.” Geoff says that Mazengarb Lawyers has facilities onsite and access to outside advisers such as financial advisers, tax advisers and child psychologists to expand the pool of knowledge that surrounds the parties. “We find that everyone comes in with a common desire to focus on working out a solution,” says Geoff.
