When it comes to health, there’s nothing more important than knowing your doctor, except perhaps your doctor knowing you, inside out. When you find a practice where doctors are treating the children of patients they treated as children, you know you’ve chosen wisely. The family doctor-patient relationship is based on mutual trust and familiarity born on continuity, and that special, individual service that endures in private practice. Established in 1993 by Dr Cameron McLeod, Dr Chris Haug and Dr Dorothy Russell, the practice grew at a rapid pace, giving way to opportunity for Dr Cathy Meehan to join the team in March 1994, and Dr Bruce Bilbe five years later. The partners quickly earned a reputation for high quality medical care for the whole family. Dr Katherine Holzhauser, a Cairns local, started out as a patient of the practice from childhood, eventually joining the team as a GP Registrar in 2014 before becoming a partner this year. Twenty-four years on, McLeod Street Medical remains a private practice that is owned by its principal GP’s with original doctors and original patients. This quietly unassuming busy practice extended significantly in 2014 to celebrate its 21st birthday and has since built up to include ten doctors covering all aspects of family general practice caring for our multi-generations of families. team work hard to maintain the family environment that we have created. The practice includes doctors, an onsite psychologist and an exercise physiologist, a dietician, pathology collection and a pharmacy conveniently located next door. McLeod Street Medical is also committed to supporting the training of our doctors and nursing students, being a registered training practice, supervising medical students, nursing students and GP registrars – doctors training to be GPs. “McLeod Street Medical is a truly special practice – I love living and working in such a great place as Cairns. The team, the service ethos and the atmosphere definitely combine to induce good health,” says Katherine. Consideration for our patients ongoing care is our number one priority. We look forward to our family taking care of yours.
