Sailing, Kayaking & Boating The broad, sheltered waters of the Bay of Quinte make Belleville one of the top destinations for sailing and a prime location for power boating, kayaking and windsurfing. The Bay of Quinte Yacht Club caters to those interested in both sailing and power boating as well as cruising, racing in keelboats or dinghies or those who want to socialize at one of their many social events. The club also hosts camps in the summer for youth and adults who want to experience the thrill of sailing. Fishing in Belleville
The Bay of Quinte is the perfect destination for fishing. We are internationally known for our walleye and anglers from all over come to take part in our many fishing tournaments including our annual Kiwanis Walleye World competition. The Moira River cuts through downtown Belleville and has many fishermen lining its shores in early May during walleye season. The Moira River is also a hot spot for fly fishing enthusiasts. In addition to walleye there are large and small mouth bass, pike, musky, perch, catfish and other pan fish. W H AT T O D O Boat Launches Belleville Recreation, Culture and Community Services operates two boat launches on the City’s waterfront - one at the bottom of Herchimer Avenue and the other at South George Street. Both have coin-operated ticket machines for your convenience. Seasonal boat passes can be purchased at the South George Street Canteen, City Hall (169 Front Street) or the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department located at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road).

The Trans Canada Trail is one of the world’s longest networks of trails and is made up of nearly 500 individual trails. To date approximately 80% of the trails are connected. Once fully connected in 2017 the trails will stretch nearly 24,000 km from coast to coast. Belleville’s section of the Trans Canada Trail enters near Corbyville and follows north to Stirling. The trail is 23.5 km in length. This trail provides opportunity for hiking, horseback riding, ATVing or snowmobiling. Conservation Areas

Concerts on the Bay date back to 1967. The ANAF Veteran’s Association, along with a few keen citizens, had a vision to create a venue for enhancing the summer experience with the sound of music. They joined together and with the support of several local businesses a band shell was constructed. Needless to say, this gave way to an annual tradition, free summer concerts featuring, in most part, local entertainers who also benefited by having the experience of performing in front of live audiences. Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, fun for the whole family. You can hide and/or seek containers, called geocaches or caches. Do this by entering the coordinates into a GPS or compatible mobile device and then set out on the adventure of finding them. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook where you enter - 28 -
the date you found it and sign it with your established code name. After signing the log, the cache must be placed back exactly where you found it. If you want to take something from the cache, be sure to have something to leave behind for the next person to find. Belleville has over 50 caches hidden in the city. HISTORY
Museums Glanmore National Historic Site Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1969 in recognition of its exceptional 2nd Empire architecture. Built in 1882 – 1883 for wealthy banker J.P.C. Philips (1842 – 1912) and his wife Harriet Dougall Philips (1839 – 1915). The grand interior includes beautiful hand-painted ceilings and ornate woodwork. Many rooms have been restored to the 1890s. Period room displays containing some original furnishings as well as beautiful objects from the Couldrey Collection. The museum cares for an extensive collection of antique furniture, paintings and ceramics. Local history is highlighted in Glanmore’s lower level and includes the Early Homestead display and Maid of All Work: Domestic Service at Glanmore exhibit. Heritage Belleville Heritage Belleville is our municipal heritage committee and is comprised of citizens appointed to the committee who are interested and knowledgeable about heritage matters. There are a few self-guided tours available so you can fully embrace and enjoy the rich heritage that Belleville has. The City Hall Tour Belleville’s beautiful High Victorian Gothic City Hall was built in 1872 and is an identifiable landmark in Belleville. Inside City Hall you will find beautiful stained glass, original bricks and wooden trusses. Designated Sites Walking Tour Take a walking tour and see the beautiful heritage properties located here in Belleville. The designation of properties protects and preserves its architectural history. Places of Worship Walking Tour This tour takes a look at the many churches and sites in Belleville that existed from the City’s beginning up to 1940 that served a religious purpose, some of which continue to do so.
