To me, school nursing is about helping students with whatever is necessary to optimize their success in school. Helping to reduce barriers created by health conditions or disparities, creating a safe environment so children can thrive and providing education to establish healthy lifetime practices are essential aspects of school nursing.

To me being a school nurse is providing care for all children. School nursing allows us to care, educate, provide health promotion and prevention techniques to enhance the wellbeing of our children, families and communities.

Being a school nurse means I get a chance to make a difference in the lives of high school students before they begin their lives as young adults. I like to be the ‘safe place to fall’ for any physical or emotional problems they might be having at school or at home. Through day to day interactions in the clinic, I hope I can be a positive influence in their lives.

Being a school nurse means living out CISD’s core values by supporting learners in their physical and emotional health. While it has always meant working to be a responsible source of science-based health information and support for our school, this year has highlighted that role. I am honored to be able to serve our families this way.

To me, being a school nurse means building relationships with my students and their families. Knowing a student helps me to manage their health needs so they can achieve academic and personal success.

I am a school nurse because I love working with children and feel they teach us new things every day. School nursing focuses on the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of a child, families and staff.

COPPELL ISD OUR STORY

To me being a school nurse is about building relationships through caring for students. Many of these relationships are built over years as I watch a timid kindergartener grow into a confident 5th grader. Elementary school nursing is a great mix of what I love nursing and education. Fall 2020

My role as a school nurse is to primarily and most importantly be an advocate for our learners. I seek to be a source of consistency and reliability for students and staff alike. Whether that be for their health and well being or for comfort and peace of mind. I love being a helping and healing presence to those whom I treat.
