LETIAN QU

b.1991, China Lives in London, UK

“My art explores the impact of the political environment on individuals, drawing from my experience of living in London and following Chinese current affairs. Through intense colors and bold lines, I aim to convey the unease and pain that I feel when witnessing the constraints imposed by the system and the harm caused by diseases and social issues.

Amidst China’s zero-Covid policy, I have created artwork that portrays collective numbness, resistance, and the consequences of political epidemic restrictions. Through my art, I aspire to initiate a dialogue and foster understanding about the lasting impact of the political environment and the challenges individuals face.”

Graduating in 2015 from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Letian Qu’s early focus revolved around printmaking and painting. Seeking further exploration, he pursued an MA in Print at the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2019. During his time at RCA, Letian delved into digital print, photography, and moving image, expanding his creative repertoire. In 2021, Letian successfully completed his studies at RCA, but his passion for printing continues to drive his artistic endeavors. Currently based in London, he resides and works in the vibrant city, continually exploring the possibilities of print as a medium.
