MEET OUR STAFF

GET YOUR SEMESTER OFF TO A "HEALTHY" START! Typically the month of January brings about resolutions to be healthier in the New Year. Our lists usually include such things as better eating, being more physically active, or stopping a bad habit. A new academic semester can also get off to a "healthy" start by using some of the following tips: • Student Resource Portal – It offers links to many areas such as Success Coaching, the Online Writing Lab and much, much more! • Free Online Tools – you can find help with collaboration, note taking, organization, research & more • Ask Questions! Sounds silly maybe, but there really are NO stupid questions! It’s better to get help with a problem sooner than later. • Make a Plan! Plan now to help yourself stay motivated all semester! Keep a calendar (electronic or an old school paper version) of assignment due dates and other commitments to be sure you are getting work done on time.

WKU On Demand student? Although On Demand courses are completely self-paced, they still have an end date - don't put yourself at risk of not completing on time. Using financial aid? ALL work (including finals) needs to be completed by April 27, 2018 for the spring semester.

GET HELP EARLY! Most resolutions start off with good intentions, but sometimes it is hard to keep up the momentum. You might have started the semester “healthy”, utilizing some of the tips on the previous page, but maybe that fades and you find yourself sinking. Don’t let yourself sink too far! Get help early on! Many students do not realize there is free online tutoring available for a wide variety of courses.Help is as easy as making a phone call to The Learning Center at 270745-6254 to set up an appointment. Additional resources you may find helpful include: Research assistance with a librarian specializing in your area of interest Feedback on writing and presentation skills Resume writing and mock interviews Discount software and tech support Student success coaching

If you attended WKU this past fall, how happy are you with your success? Did you earn the grade(s) you were hoping for? When finals week came, were you prepared or did you find yourself scrambling to finish assignments and study? Reflection is a great way to help prepare for the future. If you were not happy with the results from fall, now is the time to get a new game plan ready for the new semester! It’s never too late to get off to a great start! One of the keys to success in online learning is time management. Most online classes do have due dates and deadlines for us to follow. Do you do assignments the night before they are due or do you schedule time throughout the week to work on them? And with WKU On Demand classes, there are NO deadlines! (unless you are utilizing financial aid, then your work needs to be done 2 weeks prior to the end of the semester)

NEW WKU ON DEMAND COURSES WKU On Demand is very pleased to announce that we have added two exciting and newly redesigned Foundations courses to our catalog for Spring 2018:

MAT 109C (General Math), newly redesigned by Mr. Zachary Bettersworth, is a Math course for non-science majors, suggested for the student who has satisfactorily completed the minimum high school math requirements and needs no further work in algebra. MAT 109C satisfies the Foundations Quantitative Reasoning requirement. Topics include sets, introduction to probability and statistics, geometry, and consumer mathematics. MAT 109C fulfills the D.2. (Mathematics) general education requirement here at WKU. The course will help the student to understand and apply mathematical skills and concepts. Students complete their work in MyMathLab and there are two proctored exams in the course.

Dr. Marko Dumancic has developed HIST 102 for WKU On Demand. HIST 102 (WORLD HISTORY SINCE 1500) satisfies the Foundations World History requirement. HIST 102 provides an introduction to the global past since 1500. It helps students to understand the diversity of and the connections between the world’s cultures and ideologies and to become acquainted with global political, social, and economic history. It uses readings, exams, and “history labs” to introduce students to major historical developments and consequences as well as key achievements, turning points and individuals impacting world history. This course also encourages students to think analytically about how people have created and adapted societies and institutions in response to the challenges and opportunities that have confronted them. In addition to the essay and lab work required for this course, there are three proctored exams. History 102 aims to prepare students for life by emphasizing: Critical thinking, informed citizenship, historical perspective, and social engagement.

Both of these courses are currently open and available for registration. Students can register for our self-paced, online courses anytime by phone (270-745-4158) or online (www.wku.edu/ondemand). Payment is required at the time of registration and Financial Aid is accepted.

MAY THE COURSE BE WITH YOU To help kick off the beginning of spring registration for WKU On Demand courses, several staff members (including Darth Vader!) were out on campus to greet students with mini light sabers. The staff enjoyed getting to talk to students in person about what WKU On Demand courses offer. Courses can be completed in as little as 7 weeks or over an extended timeframe.

These courses can be started any day, any time, and anywhere! On Demand courses are considered in-state for tuition purposes, regardless of where you reside. WKU On Demand offers over 100 courses – for a current listing click HERE.
